Job Details

We are looking for a committed and experienced Social Worker to join our Out of Hours Social Work Service in a permanent 24-hour post.

This is a rewarding and fast-paced role where you will respond to urgent situations involving children, families and vulnerable adults out with normal working hours. You will work alongside a Co-ordinator who leads the shift, providing direction and oversight, while carrying out assessments and interventions.

In this role, you will:

  • Respond to referrals and undertake assessments of risk and need.

  • Carry out visits and interventions, including responding to safeguarding concerns.

  • Work independently at times, making informed decisions in line with policy and procedure.

  • Liaise effectively with the Co‑ordinator on shift, as well as partner agencies such as Police and health.

  • Provide support in emergency situations, including responding to crises overnight.

  • Maintain accurate case recordings and contribute to reports.

  • With work allocated via the Co‑ordinator, you will play a key role in delivering assessments and interventions. You will be supported on shift while exercising professional judgement and working independently when needed.

This is a permanent 24-hour post within the Out of Hours Social Work Service. The role involves working a rota that covers:

  • Evenings and weekends.

  • Overnight on-call duties.

  • Public holidays.

The successful candidate will work 24 hours per week in accordance with the service rota and operational requirements. The rota is not fixed.

You will be expected to travel across Fife as required.

The Person

We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate:

  • A Degree / Diploma in Social Work or equivalent.

  • A minimum of 2 years post-qualifying experience in statutory social work.

  • Experience of working with children, families and/or vulnerable adults at risk.

  • Knowledge of Child and Adult Protection procedures and relevant legislation.

  • Ability to assess risk, make decisions and take appropriate action in complex and high-pressure situations.

  • Confidence to work independently, particularly out of hours.

  • Effective communication skills, including engaging with service users and multi-agency partners.

  • Ability to prioritise competing demands and respond to emergencies.

  • IT skills and accurate case recording.

  • Ability to travel throughout Fife.

Before confirming to your appointment, you will be required to obtain Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme membership through Disclosure Scotland and become a member of the relevant PVG scheme.

As this role requires SSSC registration, you will have three months to apply for registration.

If appointed, you must start your application as soon as possible so you're registered within the required six months.

If you need to achieve a qualification to maintain your SSSC membership, information will be provided if you are appointed. You must ensure you complete the qualification within the specified timeframe.

More details are included in the role profile.

We provide training aligned to the principles of the National Induction Framework.
