SEND Support Staff Opportunities – Washington & Durham

Start Date: September 2026 | EYFS, KS1 & KS2 | Full‑Time, Part‑Time & Flexible Roles

Are you passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of children with special educational needs? Teaching Personnel is expanding its dedicated SEND support team across primary schools in Washington and Durham, and we’re looking for compassionate, committed individuals to join us for the new academic year.

Whether you’re seeking full‑time stability, part‑time balance, or flexible day‑to‑day work, we have roles to suit your lifestyle and experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide tailored 1:1 or small‑group support to pupils with a range of SEND needs, including ASD, ADHD, SEMH, speech and language needs, and learning difficulties.

  • Assist class teachers across EYFS, KS1 and KS2 to deliver inclusive, engaging learning experiences.

  • Implement personalised support plans and behaviour strategies.

  • Help create a positive, nurturing classroom environment where every child feels valued and supported.

  • Support pupils with emotional regulation, communication, and social development.

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and parents to ensure consistent, high‑quality support.

✔️ Key Requirements

  • Experience working with children or young people (school‑based or otherwise).

  • A genuine passion for supporting pupils with additional needs.

  • Patience, resilience, and a caring, proactive approach.

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

  • Ability to adapt to different school environments and pupil needs.

  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2/3 TA, SEND training) are beneficial but not essential—we welcome transferable skills and provide training.

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply for one.

Why Work With Teaching Personnel?

  • Competitive weekly pay, paid directly through PAYE.

  • Access to a wide range of roles across Washington and Durham to suit your availability.

  • Free and subsidised CPD, including:

    • Autism awareness

    • Behaviour management

    • Safeguarding

    • Speech and language support

  • A dedicated consultant who genuinely listens and supports your career goals.

  • Opportunities to secure long‑term or permanent roles.

  • A welcoming, supportive community of educators and SEND specialists.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQ’s on the Teaching Personnel website for details.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
