Job description

We are seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and enthusiastic 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to join our supportive school community. This rewarding role involves providing individual support to a pupil with Special Educational Needs (SEN), helping them to access learning, develop social skills, and achieve their full potential in a safe and inclusive environment.

The successful candidate will work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, parents, and external professionals to ensure the child receives the highest standard of support throughout their school day.

Location: Burnley
Salary: £14.25 - £15.50 per hour
Contract: Full-time
Start Date: Tuesday 1st September 2026

Key Responsibilities

- Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil with SEN.

- Implement learning and behavioural strategies as directed by the class teacher and SENCO.

- Support the pupil's academic, social, emotional, and personal development.

- Encourage independence, confidence, and positive engagement in classroom activities.

- Adapt resources and activities to meet the individual needs of the pupil.

- Monitor progress and maintain accurate records where required.

- Assist with managing behavioural, sensory, or communication needs.

- Promote inclusion and ensure the pupil is fully involved in school life.

- Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, parents, and external agencies.

You will need:

- Experience working with children with Special Educational Needs, either in a school or similar setting.

- A patient, caring, and nurturing approach.

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

- The ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and families.

- Knowledge of strategies to support pupils with ASD, ADHD, SEMH, communication difficulties, or other additional needs (desirable).

- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

- Relevant Teaching Assistant qualifications are desirable but not essential.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
