Job description

Our client leads an active lifestyle, therefore a successful applicant will hold a full clean UK drivers’ licence to Drive the clients vehicle.

Would you like to do live in care, staying within your local county of Tyne and Wear?

Would you like a rewarding role in which you can support a client with a spinal cord injury in his own home?

Come and join one of the UK's largest providers of complex care.

Within the Care in the Home division, we support clients with spinal cord injury to live independently in their own homes.

We'd like you to join us as a Live In Support Worker in the Newcastle upon Tyne area.

In this role, you’ll support one individual with complex needs, working regular weekly shifts to build a consistent, trusted care team. While hours are usually stable, the position is offered on a zero-hours contract as care packages can change.

Meet the client:

Our client lives at home with his mother and their small dog and enjoys spending time with family and maintaining an active lifestyle.

He has a passion for gardening, particularly growing vegetables, caring for houseplants and cultivating bonsai trees. He enjoys watching sports and films, dining out, and fishing. He is also a big fan of travel and enjoys talking about some of the amazing places he has visited, including America and Japan.

It would be great if you could drive so that you can enjoy these activities together and support him to access the community. He values meaningful conversation, has a very dry sense of humour and enjoys having a laugh. He would welcome someone who will take the time to get to know him, with previous experience of supporting people with spinal cord injuries being desirable. Most importantly, he is looking for someone who is willing to learn and provide support with his clinical needs.

What you'll be doing:

  • Supporting our male client with a spinal cord injury within his own home.
  • Moving into the client's home during your assignment and providing support with:
  • Personal care, including washing, dressing and toileting.
  • Moving and handling.
  • Airway management, including cough assist, nebuliser and Airvo humidification.
  • Blood glucose monitoring and insulin administration.
  • Domestic tasks.
  • Social and community activities.

When you'll be working:

  • Regular assignments with this client
  • Assignment length 1 weeks at a time

What you'll have:

  • Kind and caring nature
  • Flexibility & reliability – continuity of care is imperative for our clients
  • Good communication skills
  • A full UK driving licence, as our client requires support with driving and accessing the community.
  • Previous experience supporting individuals with spinal cord injuries would be advantageous, although full training will be provided to the right candidate.

What to look forward to:

  • £153 - £168 per day (depending on UK experience and qualifications)
  • Accrued holiday pay
  • Flexible zero hours contract
  • A Nest Personal Pension account
  • We recognise outstanding Active Behaviours via the Active Awards programme
  • Refer a Friend Scheme and earn yourself up to £1500 by recommending someone you know
  • Ongoing support and guidance of our qualified clinical and business leadership teams so that you can really develop your career with Active Care Group

At Active Care Group, we want everyone to feel welcome and supported. We encourage applications from people of all backgrounds and experiences. If you need any reasonable adjustments during the recruitment or interview process, just let us know and we’ll be very happy to discuss this with you
