This is a highly rewarding opportunity to support children and young people who require additional guidance, encouragement and understanding to re-engage with learning and build a brighter future.

About the Provision

The PRS provides specialist support for pupils aged 5–16 who are unable to access mainstream education due to a variety of social, emotional and behavioural needs. The setting offers a nurturing and structured environment where pupils are encouraged to develop confidence, emotional resilience and positive attitudes towards learning.

Staff work collaboratively to ensure every student receives the personalised support they need to succeed both academically and personally.

The Opportunity

As a Teaching Assistant, you will play an important role in helping pupils engage with education, manage challenges and achieve their individual goals. Working closely with teachers, pastoral teams and other professionals, you will provide targeted support that promotes positive outcomes and meaningful progress.

No two days are the same, making this role ideal for someone who thrives on building relationships, celebrating small successes and making a genuine difference.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide tailored 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEMH and SEN needs
  • Develop positive, professional relationships that encourage trust and engagement
  • Support pupils in managing emotions and behaviours using effective de-escalation techniques
  • Assist with adapting learning activities to meet individual needs and targets
  • Promote independence, self-esteem and positive decision-making
  • Support the implementation of behaviour and support plans
  • Contribute to maintaining a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment
  • Work alongside teaching staff, pastoral teams and external professionals
  • Monitor progress and maintain accurate records of pupil support and development

About You

  • Patient, calm and resilient in challenging situations
  • Passionate about supporting vulnerable children and young people
  • Confident in building positive relationships and maintaining professional boundaries
  • A strong communicator with a proactive and flexible approach
  • Committed to making a long-term impact within a specialist educational setting

Essential Experience

  • Previous experience working within a PRU, PRS, SEMH provision, SEN setting, alternative provision or youth work environment
  • Experience supporting children or young people with additional behavioural, emotional or learning needs
  • Ability to work full-time on a long-term basis

Desirable Skills

  • Team Teach training (or willingness to undertake training)
  • Understanding of trauma-informed practice
