Cover Supervisor

Location: Nottingham
Pay: Up to £650 per week
Hours: Full Time and Part Time hours available

About The Role

Connex Education are recruiting for a dedicated and enthusiastic Cover Supervisor to join a successful and inclusive secondary school in Nottingham.

This is an excellent opportunity for an individual who is passionate about supporting young people and creating a positive learning environment where students are encouraged to engage, achieve and develop confidence in their abilities.

As a Cover Supervisor, you will play an important role in ensuring continuity of learning by delivering pre-planned lessons across a range of subjects in the absence of the class teacher. You will support students to remain focused on their work, encourage positive attitudes towards learning and maintain a calm and purposeful classroom environment.

The successful candidate will be confident leading classes of secondary-aged students, able to build positive relationships and manage behaviour effectively while maintaining the school's high expectations.

You will work closely with teaching staff to support student progress, provide feedback following lessons and contribute to a consistent and supportive learning experience for all students.

You will be organised, adaptable and approachable, with excellent communication skills and a genuine desire to make a difference to young people.

This role would suit graduates considering a career in teaching, experienced Cover Supervisors, Teaching Assistants, Learning Mentors or individuals with experience working with young people in an educational or youth setting.

Role Responsibilities

  • Delivering pre-planned lessons across a range of subjects in the absence of the class teacher.
  • Supervising classes of secondary-aged students and maintaining a calm and purposeful learning environment.
  • Ensuring students remain focused and engaged with the work provided.
  • Managing classroom behaviour in line with school expectations and policies.
  • Building positive and professional relationships with students.
  • Supporting students with their learning and encouraging them to work independently.
  • Providing feedback to teaching staff regarding student engagement, behaviour and progress.
  • Following lesson plans and ensuring learning objectives are communicated clearly.
  • Supporting students with different abilities and learning needs.
  • Maintaining a safe, inclusive and respectful classroom environment.
  • Working collaboratively with teaching and pastoral staff.
  • Supporting the wider school community when required.

Person Specification

To be considered for this role, candidates must have/be able to demonstrate:

  • Experience working with young people in an educational, youth work, tutoring, coaching or similar setting is desirable.
  • A genuine passion for supporting young people and helping them achieve their potential.
  • The confidence to lead a classroom and maintain positive behaviour.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A calm, patient and consistent approach.
  • The ability to follow lesson plans and instructions effectively.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to adapt to different subjects and year groups.
  • The ability to work independently while also being an effective member of a wider school team.
  • A willingness to learn and develop within a school environment.
  • Full enhanced DBS certificate or willingness to complete one.
  • Completion of the Connex Education onboarding process.
  • A minimum of two suitable references, including school-based references where applicable.
