The Role:

As a Learning Coach, you will play a vital role in helping children and young people overcome barriers to education, build confidence and achieve their potential. Working closely with Tutors and a wider multidisciplinary team, you will provide personalised support that helps learners engage in education, achieve recognised qualifications and make positive progress towards their future goals.

Based at Swanwick Lodge, part of Hampshire County Council's Secure and Specialist Education Service, you will work within a specialist secure residential home for up to ten children and young people aged 10 to 17 with complex attachment, mental health and behavioural needs. Using a trauma-informed, therapeutic and relationship-based approach, you will support learners to re-engage with education, develop emotional resilience and make meaningful progress towards their next steps.

What you’ll do:

  • Support Tutors to plan and deliver engaging, personalised learning programmes that meet individual learner needs.
  • Provide tailored support, guidance and encouragement to help learners build confidence, develop skills and achieve qualifications.
  • Develop positive, professional relationships that motivate learners and support their educational progress and future aspirations.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and partner professionals to deliver high-quality, inclusive educational experiences.
  • Maintain accurate learner records, monitor progress and contribute to safeguarding, quality assurance and continuous improvement activities.

What we’re looking for:

  • English and Maths qualifications at Level 2 or above.
  • Experience of working collaboratively with colleagues, teams and/or external agencies to achieve positive outcomes for children and young people.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Good digital and ICT skills, including confidence in using learning technologies.
  • A learner-centred, resilient and inclusive approach, with a genuine commitment to helping young people overcome barriers and succeed.

Take a look at our Candidate Pack for more information about the Learning Coach role, team and our values. The ‘About you’ section explains what specific knowledge, skills and experience we want you to tell us about. Make sure you explain how you meet these requirements and demonstrate our values, in your application.

Why join us?

  • Make a lasting difference to the lives of vulnerable children and young people, helping them re-engage with education, build confidence and achieve positive futures.
  • Be part of a specialist, trauma-informed service at Swanwick Lodge where education plays a key role in supporting young people to make meaningful and lasting changes in their lives.
  • Access to Health Assured's comprehensive Employee Assistance Programme to support your physical and mental wellbeing, including 24/7 telephone support, a suite of online resources, and legal and financial advice.
  • Competitive benefits package, including generous annual leave entitlement, occupational sick pay, and access to the Local Government Pension Scheme. Find more information here.
