Learning Support Assistant

Lancaster | Full-Time | Term Time Only Start Date: September 2026

Are you passionate about supporting young people to achieve their full potential?

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join a welcoming and inclusive secondary school in Lancaster from September 2026. This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of students by providing both academic and pastoral support within the classroom environment.

The Role

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and the SENCO to support students with a range of learning needs, helping them to access the curriculum, develop confidence and achieve positive outcomes.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting students in lessons on a one-to-one and small group basis
  • Assisting teachers with the preparation and delivery of learning activities
  • Promoting student engagement, independence and confidence
  • Supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
  • Encouraging positive behaviour and helping to create an inclusive learning environment
  • Monitoring and recording student progress and providing feedback where required
  • Providing pastoral support and contributing to students' overall wellbeing

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has previous experience working with children or young people, ideally within an educational setting
  • Demonstrates patience, empathy and strong communication skills
  • Is passionate about supporting students with additional learning needs
  • Can build positive relationships with pupils, staff and parents
  • Is adaptable, proactive and able to work effectively as part of a team
  • Holds GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics
  • A relevant Teaching Assistant or Learning Support qualification is desirable but not essential

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
