Learning Support Assistant

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join a welcoming and inclusive secondary school in Lancaster from September 2026. This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of students by providing both academic and pastoral support within the classroom environment.
The Role
As a Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and the SENCO to support students with a range of learning needs, helping them to access the curriculum, develop confidence and achieve positive outcomes.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting students in lessons on a one-to-one and small group basis
- Assisting teachers with the preparation and delivery of learning activities
- Promoting student engagement, independence and confidence
- Supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
- Encouraging positive behaviour and helping to create an inclusive learning environment
- Monitoring and recording student progress and providing feedback where required
- Providing pastoral support and contributing to students' overall wellbeing
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who:
- Has previous experience working with children or young people, ideally within an educational setting
- Demonstrates patience, empathy and strong communication skills
- Is passionate about supporting students with additional learning needs
- Can build positive relationships with pupils, staff and parents
- Is adaptable, proactive and able to work effectively as part of a team
- Holds GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics
- A relevant Teaching Assistant or Learning Support qualification is desirable but not essential
