Contract: Full-Time
Start Date: September 2026

If you've worked in youth work, support work, care, residential care, coaching, sports, the armed forces, mental health services, social care, customer service, hospitality, prison services, security, or any role where you've supported or mentored others, your skills could make a life-changing difference in an Alternative Provision.

We're looking for compassionate, resilient, and enthusiastic Learning Support Assistants to join a supportive Alternative Provision in St Albans this September.

The Role

As a Learning Support Assistant, you'll work closely with pupils who may have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, Autism, ADHD, learning difficulties, or have experienced barriers to education.

You'll become a trusted adult, helping pupils regulate their emotions, re-engage with learning, build confidence, and achieve both academically and personally.

No two days are ever the same—but every day offers the opportunity to make a lasting impact.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting students on a one-to-one basis and in small groups throughout the school day.
  • Building positive, trusting relationships with young people.
  • Encouraging positive behaviour and emotional regulation using restorative approaches.
  • Supporting pupils both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Helping students engage with learning and achieve their individual targets.
  • Working alongside teachers, pastoral staff, therapists, and external professionals.
  • Promoting confidence, resilience, independence, and social development.
  • Recording progress and contributing to support plans and pupil outcomes.
  • Creating a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment.

We're Looking For Someone Who:

  • Has a genuine passion for supporting children and young people.
  • Is calm, patient, resilient, and approachable.
  • Can build positive relationships and communicate confidently.
  • Remains positive when faced with challenging situations.
  • Enjoys working as part of a supportive team.
  • Has experience working with children, young people, or vulnerable adults—or has transferable skills from roles such as care, youth work, coaching, mentoring, healthcare, customer service, hospitality, residential support, prison services, the armed forces, security, or emergency services.
  • Holds an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or is willing to apply for one.

Why Join Us?

  • A rewarding opportunity where you'll make a genuine difference every single day.
  • A welcoming and supportive Alternative Provision with excellent staff support.
  • Full-time, term-time hours with a healthy work-life balance.
  • Competitive daily pay.
  • Ongoing CPD and specialist training.
  • Dedicated support from an experienced education recruitment consultant.
  • Fantastic opportunities to progress into teaching, pastoral support, behaviour mentoring, youth work, or SEN careers.

If you're looking for a career that's challenging, rewarding, and allows you to have a real impact on young people's lives, we'd love to hear from you.
