Are you an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant or Support Worker looking for a rewarding role within a supportive primary school?

A welcoming and inclusive mainstream primary school in Hornchurch is looking to recruit several dedicated SEND Teaching Assistants to join their team from September 2026. These are full-time, long-term opportunities, with vacancies available across EYFS, Key Stage 1, and Key Stage 2.

The school is seeking compassionate, resilient, and proactive individuals who are passionate about supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and helping every pupil achieve their full potential.

The Role\n

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with class teachers, the SENCO, and external professionals to provide tailored support for pupils with a range of additional needs.

Depending on the needs of the school, you may work on a 1:1 basis, support small intervention groups, or provide classroom support for children with SEND across different year groups.

\n

You will play a key role in helping pupils access learning, build confidence, develop independence, and make excellent progress both academically and socially.

Responsibilities\n

  • Support pupils with Autism (ASC), ADHD, SEMH, Speech and Language needs, Global Developmental Delay, and other Special Educational Needs.
  • \n
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support throughout the school day.
  • \n
  • Deliver targeted interventions to support learning and personal development.
  • \n
  • Encourage positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and independence.
  • \n
  • Adapt learning activities to meet individual needs.
  • \n
  • Support pupils across EYFS, KS1, and KS2.
  • \n
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, the SENCO, therapists, and parents.
  • \n
  • Monitor pupil progress and contribute towards EHCP targets where appropriate.
  • \n
  • Help create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment.
  • \n
About You\n

To be considered for this SEND Teaching Assistant role, you must have:

    \n
  • A minimum of one year's experience supporting children with SEND within a school or previous experience working as a Support Worker, Care Worker, Residential Support Worker, or within a similar setting.
  • \n
  • Experience supporting children with Autism (ASC), ADHD, SEMH, or other additional needs.
  • \n
  • Strong communication and behaviour management skills.
  • \n
  • A calm, patient, and nurturing approach.
  • \n
  • The ability to build positive and trusting relationships with children.
  • \n
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
  • \n
