Job description

Support Young People to Rebuild Confidence in Learning

the provision in Poole is seeking an empathetic and academically confident Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist secondary PRU provision supporting pupils with additional learning and emotional needs.

This setting provides a calm and nurturing environment for young people experiencing challenges such as Autism Spectrum Condition, emotionally based school avoidance, anxiety-related difficulties and barriers connected to attendance.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an individual who values relationship-based support and enjoys helping learners rebuild confidence within education.

Class sizes remain intentionally small, enabling staff to provide highly personalised guidance and meaningful encouragement to every pupil.

Working within a team consisting of a teacher and support assistant, you will contribute to both the educational and pastoral development of students working across a range of abilities, including those preparing for GCSE qualifications.

Strong literacy and numeracy skills are therefore essential, while knowledge of Science would also be beneficial.

The successful candidate will understand the importance of patience, consistency and emotional reassurance.

Many pupils within this setting require adults who can provide stability, positive communication and gentle encouragement while promoting independence and self-belief.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Assisting pupils during curriculum activities across multiple subject areas

• Supporting learners who experience anxiety or difficulties attending school

• Helping young people remain focused, organised and engaged during lessons

• Encouraging emotional wellbeing and positive self-esteem

• Adapting resources and explanations to suit individual learning profiles

• Promoting confidence in Maths, English and core subjects

• Working collaboratively with teachers, families and pastoral teams

• Supporting pupils in achieving personal and academic targets

This position would suit someone with experience in SEND, mental health support, youth services or care settings, although applications are welcomed from individuals with transferable skills and a strong passion for inclusive education.

the provision prides itself on creating a supportive culture where staff are valued, teamwork is encouraged and professional development is actively promoted.

Every member of staff plays an important role in helping young people feel safe, understood and capable of success.

If you are seeking a fulfilling opportunity where no two days are the same and where your contribution can genuinely change a young person’s future, we would love to hear from you.

A commitment to safeguarding, inclusion and pupil wellbeing is essential for this position.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQ’s on the Teaching Personnel website for details.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
Teaching Personnel is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We undertake safeguarding checks on all workers in accordance with DfE statutory guidance ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ this may also include an online search as part of our due diligence on shortlisted applicants.
We offer all our registered candidates FREE child protection and prevent duty training. All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Full assistance provided.
