GSL Education are recruiting a passionate and dedicated Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming school in York from September 2026. This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate looking to develop their understanding of child development, behaviour, emotional wellbeing and additional needs while building a rewarding career in education, psychology, counselling or related fields.

This role would be particularly suited to Psychology graduates interested in gaining practical experience before progressing into careers such as educational psychology, counselling, mental health support, social work or teaching.

The Role

As a Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will:

• Support pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups across the school.
• Use your understanding of psychology, behaviour and child development to support pupils’ learning and wellbeing.
• Build positive and trusting relationships with children and young people.
• Support pupils with emotional regulation, confidence and social development.
• Assist teachers with classroom activities and personalised learning approaches.
• Help identify barriers to learning and support strategies that encourage engagement.
• Work collaboratively with teaching staff and wider professionals to support pupil outcomes.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who:

• Holds a Psychology degree (or is due to graduate).
• Has a genuine interest in supporting children and young people.
• Is empathetic, patient and able to build strong relationships.
• Has an understanding of behaviour, mental health, child development or additional needs.
• Can remain calm and supportive in challenging situations.
• Is enthusiastic about gaining practical experience within an educational environment.

Previous experience working with children, young people, SEN, mental health, youth work, coaching or support roles would be beneficial, but is not essential.
