Job description

Make a Real Difference in a Young Person’s Life

At Cambian, we believe every child and young person deserves the opportunity to achieve their personal best. Our dedicated teams provide high-quality care, support and positive experiences that help young people develop, grow in confidence and reach their potential.

We are looking for a passionate and experienced Deputy Manager to join our children’s residential home. This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious care professional who wants to develop their leadership skills while making a genuine difference to the lives of children and young people.

As Deputy Manager, you will work closely with the Registered Manager to ensure the home provides a safe, nurturing and supportive environment. You will play a key role in leading the staff team, maintaining high standards of care and ensuring the individual needs of every young person are met.

About the Role

As Deputy Manager, you will support the Registered Manager in delivering the aims and objectives of the home's Statement of Purpose and will deputise for the Registered Manager in their absence.

You will provide leadership, direction and support to the care team while also maintaining a strong focus on direct work with young people. You will work closely with families, social workers, education professionals and other agencies to safeguard young people and achieve the best possible outcomes.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the Registered Manager in the effective day-to-day management of the home.
  • Leading, motivating and developing a team of residential care staff.
  • Providing supervision, guidance and support to staff in line with National Minimum Standards.
  • Supporting recruitment, induction, probation and ongoing development of team members.
  • Planning and managing staff rotas to ensure safe and appropriate staffing levels.
  • Ensuring staff understand and effectively implement each young person's placement plan.
  • Acting as a positive role model and undertaking direct work with children and young people.
  • Attending reviews, planning meetings and other professional meetings.
  • Chairing children's meetings and ensuring young people's views are heard and acted upon.
  • Working in partnership with parents, carers and other professionals to safeguard and promote welfare.
  • Taking responsibility for managing child protection concerns and complaints when required.
  • Maintaining accurate records, reports and management information.
  • Ensuring the home operates in accordance with company policies, procedures, legislation and National Minimum Standards.
  • Supporting effective budget management and monitoring the use of resources.
  • Ensuring the home, vehicles and facilities are maintained to a high standard.
  • Contributing to continuous improvement across the home.
  • Acting as an appropriate adult at PACE interviews, where required.
  • Driving company vehicles in accordance with company policy.
  • Carrying out other reasonable duties as directed by the Registered Manager.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for someone who is compassionate, resilient and confident in leading a team, with a genuine commitment to improving outcomes for children and young people.

You will ideally have:

Essential

  • A good standard of literacy and numeracy.
  • An NVQ Level 3 in Caring for Children and Young People or equivalent.
  • At least 1 year's relevant supervisory experience.
  • At least 12 months' experience working in a residential setting with young people who display challenging behaviour.
  • A current driving licence.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • Experience of supervising and supporting staff.
  • The ability to lead, motivate and develop a team.
  • A good understanding of safeguarding and the needs of children and young people.
  • The ability to remain calm, professional and solution-focused when managing challenging situations.

Desirable

  • A management qualification.
  • Knowledge of National Minimum Standards.
  • Knowledge of the Children Act and other relevant legislation.
  • Experience of acting as an appropriate adult under PACE.
  • Experience of working with children and young people with behavioural, emotional and social difficulties.
  • Counselling, training or drugs awareness training.

Why Join Us?

This is more than a management position — it's an opportunity to positively influence the lives of children and young people while developing your own leadership career.

You will be joining a team that is passionate about providing high-quality care and creating an environment where young people feel safe, listened to, valued and supported.

If you are an experienced residential care professional ready to take the next step in your career, we'd love to hear from you.

Apply today and help us create brighter futures for young people.

Cambian is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All successful applicants will be subject to appropriate pre-employment checks, including an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.
