The Supported Learning Department is seeking a passionate and experienced Level 7 Assessor (Teacher) to support adult learners with diverse needs. You’ll deliver and assess high-quality, inclusive teaching tailored to adult learners working towards qualifications in areas such as personal development, employability, or independent living. This role requires a flexible, learner-centred approach and a commitment to promoting progression and independence. You’ll hold a relevant Level 7 teaching qualification and Assessor award (e.g. TAQA/CAVA), with experience in adult or supported learning. We have an exciting opportunity to join our Supported Learning Department as a Level 7 Assessor – Adult Provision on a permanent, full-time (35 hours per week) basis, based at both our Nicholls and City Labs campus.

We welcome applications from aspiring teachers who are passionate about sharing their industry skills. At The Manchester College, you will be supported by our Teaching Academy to work towards qualified teacher status for post 16 compulsory education, through a Cert Ed/PGCE. This includes 3-4 hours delivery per week and engagement with a mentor to support your progress in the profession while you work. The starting salary for an unqualified teacher is between £28,300.00 – £30,307.50*. It’s a great way to kick-start a rewarding career with full training and support. Once you’ve successfully qualified and demonstrated your teaching competence, you’ll progress to the qualified teacher salary banding.

*Consideration will be given to relevant industry experience and skills with the flexibility to offer increased starting salaries in some circumstances*.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Level 7 qualification in Exam Access Arrangements Assessing or SpLD Practicing Certificate
  • Specialist Dyslexia/ Dyscalculia Teaching qualification at Level 5 or above or achievement of such within 2 years of employment
  • Batchelor of Education with QTS, Certificate of Education or PGCE
  • Current and valid industry specialism in SpLD and EAA Assessment
  • Assessor qualifications (if required by Awarding Organisation)
  • Minimum Level 7 occupational qualification
    English and maths minimum level 2 Grade C or Grade 4 and above

Also, at least one of the following

  • a postgraduate level course at or equivalent to Level 7, including at least 100 hours relating to individual specialist assessments of learners with Dyslexia/SplD #, or Exam Access Arrangements
  • a current SpLD/Practising Certificate, as awarded by BDA, the Dyslexia Guild, or PATOSS and listed on the SASC website

# including the theoretical basis underlying psychometric tests, the concepts of validity and statistical reliability, standard deviations and the normal curve, raw scores, standard scores, quotients, percentiles, and age equivalent scores,; the concept of statistically significant discrepancies between scores, standard error of discrepancy between scores; standard error of measurement and confidence levels

  • Minimum Level 3 occupational qualification
  • English and maths minimum level 2 Grace C or grade 4 and above
