Job description
.

We are seeking a proactive and capable professional to join our team delivering works across the Network Rail CP7 Western & Wales Framework. The successful applicant will take ownership of defined tasks, goals, and objectives - working under overall direction but with the independence to manage day‑to‑day responsibilities confidently. You will manage your own workload within wider project or business objectives and be accountable for the performance of a small team.

This role involves delivering small to medium‑sized operational projects, supervising trades, coordinating key site functions, and supporting commercial delivery. Projects range from £500k to £15m, with durations from 12 weeks to 18 months, typically undertaken across the Southwest and Wales.

Role Responsibilities

  • Deliver assigned tasks, objectives, and work packages to industry standards.
  • Manage day‑to‑day activities independently, escalating only significant decisions.
  • Be accountable for the performance and output of a small team.
  • In operations:
    • Manage small to medium projects and site activities.
    • Supervise larger teams of trades and coordinate major functions on larger schemes.
  • In commercial environments:
    • Manage costs and quantities on small projects.
    • Support commercial delivery as part of a wider team on larger schemes.
  • Ensure all works meet required standards, specifications, and compliance expectations.
  • Contribute to project and operational performance, working collaboratively across teams.
  • Apply sound construction knowledge and specialist expertise within your chosen field.
  • Uphold high SHEQ standards and commercial awareness, including site cost control.
  • Deliver works safely and efficiently on the Network Rail Infrastructure under the CP7 Western & Wales Framework.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Strong team player able to contribute across a project, site, or multi‑disciplinary environment.
  • Good management and leadership skills, with the ability to motivate both self and colleagues.
  • Effective planning and time‑management abilities, capable of handling multiple activities without compromising standards.
  • Proven ability to meet specifications, quality requirements, and operational objectives.
  • Solid understanding of construction practices, methods, and industry standards.
  • Specialist knowledge relevant to structural, civil, or rail‑related works.
  • Strong HSEQ awareness.
  • Good commercial understanding and the ability to manage, interpret, and control site costs.
  • Experience working on or around Network Rail Infrastructure, with structures experience essential.
  • SMSTS
  • CSCS Gold Card (NVQ Level 4 Minimum)
  • PTS
  • IT literate
  • Temporary Works Supervisor
  • NRSWA
  • 3‑Day First Aid at Work
  • CPCS Lift Supervisor
  • RD8200 Cat & Genny
  • CISRS Basic Scaffold Inspection
  • COSS (desirable)

What is in it for you?

Below is a selection of benefits that are available to you at Morgan Sindall Infrastructure.

  • Generous holiday entitlement with the option to buy five days.
  • Flexible and adaptable working
  • Family friendly policies and work/life approach
  • Mentoring programmes and continuous learning support
  • Contributory pension scheme
  • Annual bonus scheme
  • Recognition scheme and long service awards
  • Car scheme and Private Medical Insurance (if applicable to role)
  • We also provide the option to participate in our share-save scheme; discounts including cycle to work and gym membership; a support and advice service for colleagues and their families, and more.

About the Rail Business Unit

Millions of people rely on Britain’s rail network to take them safely and efficiently across the country every day. Morgan Sindall helps this happen by providing renewed and enhanced rail infrastructure with the minimum of passenger disruption.

Our customers receive a multi-disciplined service covering electrification, power supply, tunnelling and a full range of civil engineering and building capabilities including structures, lineside infrastructure, and station enhancements. This is complemented by track and signalling works from our supply chain partners to provide a complete rail offering.

Our expertise is focused not only on effective delivery of projects within a railway environment, but also on minimising disruption for railway users through the adoption of innovative working practices and techniques. These include ‘live launch’ bridge construction, in which we can install bridges while allowing railways beneath to remain operational.

From landmark station refurbishment projects and platform extensions to tunnelling works and bridge launches, we have a record of delivering rail projects that are helping to provide a rail network fit for the 21st century.
