Job description

If you enjoy working with people and making a real difference, this could be the perfect opportunity. A high-performing secondary school in Kempston is looking to appoint a proactive Attendance Officer to join its dedicated support staff team on a full-time, permanent basis from September 2026.

As a key member of the pastoral team, you'll help ensure students attend school regularly, working closely with families, teaching staff and external agencies to promote excellent attendance and remove barriers to learning. Your work will directly contribute to improved outcomes and help create an environment where every student has the opportunity to thrive.

This is a varied role offering the chance to build meaningful relationships while developing a rewarding career within education.

The Opportunity

You'll take ownership of the school's attendance systems, ensuring records are accurate while supporting initiatives that improve attendance and punctuality.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring daily attendance and identifying attendance concerns

  • Contacting parents and carers regarding student absences

  • Working with Heads of Year to implement attendance improvement plans

  • Producing attendance reports and analysing trends

  • Maintaining accurate records using the school's Management Information System

  • Supporting attendance meetings with students and families

  • Liaising with external agencies where additional support is required

About the School

This high-performing secondary school is known for its strong pastoral provision, ambitious leadership and inclusive ethos. Staff enjoy a welcoming and collaborative environment where support teams are recognised for the important role they play in helping students achieve their full potential.

What They're Looking For

The ideal candidate will be an organised and confident communicator with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to manage sensitive situations professionally.

Experience within attendance, school administration, pastoral support or a similar role would be beneficial, although applications are welcomed from candidates with strong administrative experience and a genuine passion for supporting young people.

Salary & Benefits

  • £30,000 – £35,000 per annum

  • Full-time, permanent position

  • September 2026 start

  • Local Government Pension Scheme

  • Excellent CPD and training opportunities

  • Employee Assistance Programme

  • Staff wellbeing initiatives

  • Supportive leadership team

Apply

The school is interviewing as soon as suitable applications are received, so early applications are encouraged.

If you're looking for a rewarding role where your organisational skills and commitment to supporting students will make a genuine difference, we'd love to hear from you. Apply today.
