Who we are
At SeeAbility we specialise in supporting people with learning disabilities and autism, who may also have sight loss, to realise their goals each and every day.
We encourage people with disabilities to challenge what they expect from life, from themselves and from wider society.
Registered as The Royal School for the Blind, SeeAbility is one of the oldest disability charities in the UK and has pioneered specialist support for over 220 years.
What you’ll be doing
You will play an important role in the lives of those we support by helping to prepare meals and make nutritious and tasty food.
Skills required
- To be passionate about food and confident using culinary equipment
- To be able to communicate well
- A food hygiene qualification would be beneficial, but we can provide training if required.
- To be reliable and punctual.
To ensure the safety of the people we support, we require a DBS check and two satisfactory references before a volunteer role is confirmed. As you will be volunteering in a home with vulnerable individuals, you will also be required to undertake safeguarding training, as well as any training which is specific to the role.
Benefits to the volunteer
This is a fantastic opportunity to give something positive back to society and have a direct impact upon the lives of others. Volunteering as a cook will give you the opportunity to share your cooking passion and gain satisfaction from knowing that others are enjoying your healthy and appetising cuisine.
