Job description

Maths Teacher | Brentwood, Essex | January Start

  • Mathematics Teacher required for a January start

  • Secondary school opportunity in Brentwood

  • Join a department focused on progress, confidence and academic achievement

  • Applications welcomed from experienced teachers and qualified ECTs

About the Role

Our client is seeking a committed and enthusiastic Mathematics Teacher to join a secondary school in Brentwood from January. This is an excellent opportunity for a teacher who enjoys making Mathematics accessible, challenging pupils to think logically and helping students develop the confidence to solve increasingly complex problems.

The successful candidate will deliver Mathematics lessons across KS3 and KS4, supporting pupils as they develop fluency, reasoning and problem-solving skills. You will be expected to explain mathematical concepts clearly, plan structured learning activities and help students understand how different areas of Mathematics connect.

The school is looking for a teacher who can identify misconceptions early and use effective questioning, modelling and practice to improve understanding. Lessons should provide opportunities for pupils to develop independent working habits while receiving appropriate guidance and support. Differentiation will be important in ensuring that pupils who find Mathematics challenging can build secure foundations, while higher-attaining students are encouraged to extend their reasoning and tackle more demanding tasks.

The successful applicant will also support GCSE examination preparation through regular assessment, focused revision and the development of effective examination techniques. You will monitor progress carefully, provide constructive feedback and work with colleagues to identify strategies that improve outcomes.

This is an opportunity to contribute to a department that values clear explanations, consistent teaching and a positive approach to learning. Applications are welcome from teachers at different stages of their careers who can demonstrate strong subject knowledge and a commitment to student achievement.

School Information

The school is based in Brentwood and aims to provide a high-quality education within a positive and purposeful learning environment. Students are encouraged to work hard, develop resilience and take responsibility for their progress.

The Mathematics department supports pupils in developing the numerical confidence and analytical skills needed for further education, employment and everyday life. Effective teaching, regular assessment and appropriate intervention are central to helping pupils progress from foundational concepts to more advanced mathematical reasoning.

The school recognises that confidence plays an important role in Mathematics. The successful candidate will help create a classroom environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, learning from mistakes and persevering with challenging problems.

Colleagues work together to share resources, plan curriculum delivery and support pupils with different learning needs. The appointed teacher will have the opportunity to contribute to these shared priorities and support the department's continued development.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging Mathematics lessons across KS3 and KS4.

  • Teach key topics including number, algebra, geometry, statistics and probability.

  • Develop students' fluency, mathematical reasoning and problem-solving abilities.

  • Use modelling, questioning and practice activities to address misconceptions.

  • Prepare GCSE classes for assessments and external examinations.

  • Mark work, monitor progress and provide clear feedback.

  • Differentiate learning to support pupils with SEND, EAL and varying attainment levels.

  • Establish positive classroom routines and maintain high expectations for behaviour.

  • Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum planning, assessment and intervention strategies.

Experience and Qualifications

  • A degree in Mathematics or a related subject, or an appropriate teaching qualification with strong mathematical subject knowledge.

  • QTS, PGCE or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.

  • Experience teaching Mathematics at secondary level or relevant training placements.

  • Ability to explain mathematical concepts clearly and confidently.

  • Strong lesson-planning, assessment and classroom management skills.

  • Commitment to inclusive teaching, safeguarding and pupil progress.

  • The legal right to work in the UK.

Application

If you are a passionate Mathematics Teacher seeking a new role in Brentwood this January, please forward your CV as soon as possible. The school is keen to hear from teachers who can inspire confidence, improve understanding and help pupils achieve their potential.
