Join Oxford Instruments Materials Analysis

At Oxford Instruments, our purpose is to accelerate the breakthroughs that create a brighter future for our world. Our cutting-edge technologies help scientists, engineers and innovators solve some of the most complex challenges facing society today.

Materials Analysis is an Oxford Instruments Business Unit that manages our Electron Microscopy and Mechanical Microscopy products, Atomic Force Microscopes, Raman Microscopes and Benchtop NMR Products. We are part of the wider Oxford Instruments Group that also includes Andor Technology, NanoScience, Plasma Technology and X-Ray Technology. With a sixty-year history, and fourteen Queen's Awards for Enterprise, our world-class products and technologies are helping our customers to address the greatest challenges of the 21st century.

This is an opportunity to join a highly skilled manufacturing team, helping to build and deliver advanced scientific instruments used by leading researchers, universities, technology companies and industrial organisations around the world.

The Opportunity

We're looking for a Technician who enjoys hands-on assembly work, takes pride in quality craftsmanship, and thrives in a precision manufacturing environment.

Working as part of our manufacturing team, you'll be responsible for building complex scientific instruments to exact specifications, ensuring quality, delivery and performance standards are consistently achieved. You'll work closely with colleagues across production and engineering while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives and maintaining the high standards our customers expect.

This role would suit someone with previous manufacturing, engineering, assembly or technician experience who enjoys problem solving, working with precision components and seeing a finished product leave the factory knowing they've played a key part in its success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and assemble products in line with quality standards and manufacturing procedures.
  • Manage your workload against production plans and agreed delivery schedules.
  • Follow standard operating procedures and quality processes.
  • Interpret and work from mechanical drawings and technical documentation.
  • Support continuous improvement activities, including 5S and Lean manufacturing initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate inventory and work-in-progress records.
  • Monitor build quality and resolve issues where appropriate.
  • Work safely and ensure compliance with Health & Safety requirements.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues across the manufacturing team.
  • Support and mentor junior technicians where required.

What We're Looking For

  • Experience in a manufacturing, assembly, engineering or technician role.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical drawings.
  • Strong attention to detail and a quality-focused mindset.
  • Experience working within health and safety guidelines.
  • Understanding of Lean manufacturing principles and 5S practices is advantageous.
  • A recognised engineering qualification, apprenticeship or NVQ is beneficial.
  • Positive, proactive attitude with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

What's in it for you?

Wellbeing

  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays
  • Option to purchase up to 12 additional weeks of annual leave
  • Employee Assistance Programme with 24/7 telephone support
  • Access to counselling services, financial and debt management support, and legal advice
  • Private medical insurance
  • Dental insurance
  • Life assurance

Money & Lifestyle

  • MyDiscounts platform offering savings with leading retailers
  • Electric and hybrid vehicle salary exchange scheme
  • TechScheme and CycleScheme, allowing you to spread the cost of technology, home goods and bicycles over 12 months
  • Group Pension Plan administered by AVIVA
  • Share Incentive Plan, giving you the opportunity to share in the company's success

Development

  • Professional and academic qualification support
  • Structured career pathways
  • Regular development and performance reviews
  • Ongoing opportunities to grow your skills within a global technology leader

Be Part of the Business of Science

At Oxford Instruments, you'll be joining a business where innovation, precision and collaboration come together to create technology that enables scientific discovery and technological progress worldwide.

If you're looking for a hands-on role where your work directly contributes to the manufacture of world-leading scientific instruments, we'd love to hear from you.
