Job description

Position : Sociology Teacher School : Distinguished School Contract : Permanent, Full-time Salary : MPS1 – UPS3 National Start Date : February 2025 Location : Newbury, Berkshire About the School : Located in the heart of Newbury, this distinguished school is celebrated for its commitment to academic excellence, student well-being, and holistic development.

The school is dedicated to providing an environment where students are encouraged to reach their full potential, both academically and personally, through a rich and stimulating curriculum.

The school values critical thinking, creativity, and global awareness, offering a supportive atmosphere where students engage with contemporary issues and prepare for success in an ever-evolving world.

The curriculum is designed to inspire intellectual curiosity while a strong co-curricular program enhances students' personal development, helping them develop leadership, resilience, and teamwork skills.

With modern facilities, a highly skilled teaching team, and a commitment to individual student progress, the school is a place where both students and staff thrive.

The Opportunity : We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Sociology Teacher to join our prestigious school starting in February 2025.

This is an excellent opportunity for both experienced teachers and Early Career Teachers (ECTs) to make a significant impact by teaching Sociology at Key Stages 3 and 4, with the potential to teach A-Level depending on experience.

Key Responsibilities : Plan, deliver, and evaluate engaging Sociology lessons across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5, ensuring each lesson is differentiated to meet the needs of all students.

Develop a deep understanding of sociological concepts, from family structures to global social issues, helping students make connections between theoretical knowledge and real-world applications.

Regularly assess student progress through both formative and summative assessments, providing constructive feedback to support students in their academic development.

Foster critical thinking and analytical skills by integrating case studies, sociological theories, and current social issues into lessons.

Encourage independent research and learning through project work, field trips, and the use of sociological tools and technologies.

Collaborate with colleagues to share resources, improve teaching methods, and contribute to the success of the Humanities department.

Contribute to the school’s co-curricular activities, such as organizing sociology clubs, field trips, or guest speaker events that extend learning beyond the classroom.

Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress, and behavior, in line with school policies.

Foster a positive, inclusive classroom environment that promotes respect, collaboration, and personal growth among students.

Stay up-to-date with developments in sociology education, integrating new teaching strategies, resources, and technologies into your practice.

What We’re Looking For : Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.

Experience teaching Sociology at Key Stages 3, 4, and 5.

Strong understanding of the Sociology curriculum, including assessment practices and best pedagogical approaches.

A degree in Sociology or a related subject (desirable).

A genuine passion for teaching Sociology and inspiring students to engage with social issues and critical thinking.

Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to motivate and engage students of all abilities.

Why Join Us?

Be part of a distinguished school with a strong reputation for academic achievement and personal development.

Join a collaborative, dynamic team that values professional growth and teamwork.

Work in a positive and inclusive school culture that prioritizes both academic success and the well-being of students.

Access ongoing professional development opportunities, with clear pathways for career progression.

Enjoy employee benefits, including a Cycle to Work scheme and other perks.

How to Apply : If you are excited about the opportunity to inspire and teach the next generation of Sociology students, please submit your CV and covering letter to [email protected] .

We look forward to hearing from you!
