Histotechnologist I work under general supervision precisely and accurately performs a variety of routine and specialized histology techniques and procedures. The Histotechnologist I will research, troubleshoot, and resolve histology related inquiries and problems within the laboratory. This position requires the production of the highest quality of embedding, microtomy, tissue grossing, tissue processing, H&E staining, manual and automated special staining, immunohistochemistry, and equipment maintenance.
Histotechnologist II works under minimal direction will consistently and accurately perform either a greater number or more varied amount of complex or difficult tasks and assignments than the work performed by a Histotechnologist I.
Histotechnologist III works under little or no supervision and will consistently and accurately perform either a greater number or more varied amount of complex or difficult tasks and assignments than the work performed by a
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Histotechnologist I Responsibilities :
- Receives tissue specimens and ensures proper accessioning and labeling of all tissue samples
- Processes paperwork associated with accessioning and reporting
- Performs routine and non-routine activities involved in the preparation of slides for microscopic evaluation by pathologist(s), according to established Standard Operating Procedures
- Performs microtomy according to established Standard Operating Procedures
- Embeds processed tissue in paraffin wax
- Performs coverslipping of stained slides either manually or automated, all special stain procedures according to established SOPs, and filing of blocks and slides
- Responds promptly to pathologists, technologists, and administrative requests
- Maintains laboratory in a clean, functional state, as well as cleaning, performing or scheduling equipment and instrument maintenance / calibration / certification, as required. Documents remedial actions such as repairs or repeated tests
- Demonstrates initiative in making suggestions to improve efficiency and productivity and provides consistent feedback
- Participates in quality control initiatives. Prepares lab for inspection from regulatory institutions
