We have an exciting new job opportunity for a court usher to join one of our Government Client Willesden & Hendon Magistrates court on behalf of Harrow Crown Court which has been temporarily closed.

YOU WILL BE WORKING AT BOTH COURTS ON A WEEKLY ROTA BASIS.

This is a full-time temporary role for an ongoing 6 months with a view to extending the contract further. The responsibilities of the role will include :

Salary : £12.36 rises to 13.25 after 12 weeks worked p / h (with benefits of pension scheme and holiday.

Hours : 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday , 09 : 00-17 : 00

if you are successful you will be subject to security checks which take approximately 2-3 weeks to process.

The Agency worker will :

Prepare the Courts for sitting, Closing the court at the end of the day.

Keep Courtrooms clean and tidy throughout the day.

Key Duties and Responsibilities :

Courtroom Operations : Open and close courtrooms, ensuring they are prepared and organized for hearings. Punctuality, attention to detail, and strong organizational skills are essential.

Support and Escort Court Users : Guide and assist court users (witnesses, defendants, public) to appropriate locations, ensuring comfort and understanding of proceedings. Requires customer service skills and professionalism.

Call Legal Professionals : Announce solicitors and barristers at the appropriate times, ensuring smooth transitions with clear communication and professionalism.

Case Announcements : Announce cases in order and ensure timely hearings, using live streaming and Court Video Platform (CVP) for remote participants. Requires time management and punctuality.

Record Hearing Times : Log start and finish times for accurate records, maintaining attention to detail and strong time management.

Handle Inquiries : Respond to questions from the public, legal professionals, and court users in person, requiring effective communication, problem-solving, and empathy.

Manage Court Files : Collect and deliver legal bundles, manage, and securely dispose of files. Discretion, attention to detail, and organizational skills are required to handle sensitive information.

Additional Skills & Attributes :

• Punctuality and Professionalism - Timely arrival and professional conduct are essential to maintaining a smooth, respectful, and efficient courtroom environment.
• Discretion and Confidentiality - Handle sensitive information with care and maintain confidentiality at all times.
• Customer Service - Providing excellent customer service to court users by offering guidance, answering questions, and ensuring a supportive environment throughout their experience at court.
• Calm Under Pressure - The role may involve high-pressure situations, and remaining composed and professional is key to handling challenges effectively.

Obtain names of all parties and complete Court records where appropriate.

Swear in witnesses as appropriate.

Photocopy any documents required by the Court.

Ensure the smooth running of the Courts.

Supervise Jury deliberation

Administering Oaths to witnesses.

Tracking the attendance of parties scheduled to appear in court

Comply with office standards such as timekeeping and dress code. Provide assistance elsewhere in the office as and when required.

Key Skills :

Experience working within a public facing environment is desirable

Provide some Administrative support and will follow set procedures and exercise with some independent judgement in carrying out work.

Good communication skills both oral and written required.

A working knowledge and experience of Microsoft Office
