Are you passionate about Teaching & Learning?  Hammersmith & Fulham is looking to recruit a Specialist Teacher to join INSPIRE, our successful and highly regarded Specialist SEND Outreach Advisory Service.

We are currently seeking an experienced additionally qualified teacher who will thrive working within the INSPIRE Specialist SEND Outreach Service to support Autistic children specifically in the Primary Phase. This integrated team works in partnership with settings / school staff, specialist teachers, educational psychologists, parents / caregivers and Autistic children and young people to maximise learning, socialisation and independence.

We are looking for candidates who have strong experience of successful delivery of a range of specific interventions to support the learning and development of Autistic children specifically in the Primary Phase.

Working independently and as part of a wider team, you will support Autistic children.to access learning with the aim of helping them to achieve their individual aspirations. You will need to be enthusiastic, able to use your own initiative, have a drive and resilience for what is often a very demanding role and you must be people-centred with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling you to build positive relationships with both staff and children and young people.

You must be a qualified teacher and have teaching experience in the Primary phase and it is also essential for candidates to have previously worked with autistic children and young people. We ask that you are hard-working, willing to learn and committed to promoting the positive development of all children and young people to achieve their outcomes.

You will be highly skilled with exceptional communication skills who can demonstrate an ability to engage children and young people and build strong working relationships within the team and with other professionals to achieve the best outcomes for children and young people.

You will have an excellent knowledge and understanding of current education issues and of how to work with a range of settings / schools.

Role Responsibilities :

Working in partnership with mainstream settings / schools, external agencies and parents / caregivers to provide interventions and support for children and young people with Social and Communication needs and Autism with duties including :

  • Providing advisory visits to schools, which include observing and assessing children and young people with Social and Communication needs including Autism, identifying specific strengths and needs, and giving advice on supporting communication for learning, socialisation and independence.
  • Using specialist experience of working in classrooms to provide tailored interventions and guidance that supports schools in meeting the needs of children and young people with Social and Communication needs and Autism s to prevent the need for higher threshold services arising.
  • Raising the profile of Autism, particularly early identification and intervention and providing practical advice and strategies. This includes delivering regular training for education staff.

You will be educated to degree level and hold Qualified Teacher Status with additional postgraduate qualification.
