Looking for a delivery driver job where you can stay active, connected to your community, and enjoy great benefits? Join Royal Mail as a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) and become the face of our trusted service, delivering letters and parcels in Hythe.

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work a minimum of 1 Sunday at Folkestone Delivery Office.

What you’ll do

  • Sort letters and parcels at the delivery office
  • Deliver post by van and on foot in your local area
  • Build relationships with customers
  • Work outdoors in all weathers

You’ll deliver more than just mail: exam results, birthday cards, business orders, and moments that matter.** It's not always easy – but it’s always rewarding.

Why people enjoy this role

  • Being active and outdoors
  • Working independently
  • Meeting customers
  • A role that offers routine, structure, and variety

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

  • Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
  • Driving a Royal Mail van daily
  • Working in all weather conditions
  • Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
  • Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

  • A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
  • Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
  • Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
  • Reliable and self-motivated
  • Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
  • Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
  • Comfortable working outdoors and independently

What’s in it for you?

Benefits may vary depending on your contract length and start date, with some subject to qualifying periods.

  • 22.5 days holiday, rising with service (adjusted to your working hours and contract duration if part time* or fixed term)
  • Career development opportunities
  • Excellent pension and 24/7 wellbeing support, including online GP access.
  • Family-friendly policies
  • MyBundle+ discounts and offers helping you save on everyday items, days out, and more.
  • Discounted RMG products and free stamps at Christmas

*Please note: For candidate search purposes, roles offering between 35-37 hours per week are listed as full-time. However, any role under 37 hours per week will be classified as part-time in the employment contract.

**As a Postie, you’re expected to securely deliver all items on your route, including handling and delivering election materials and certain items (such as food products or alcohol) in line with Royal Mail business standards.
