Welcome to Hastings Direct

We’re a digital insurance provider with ambitious plans to become The Best and Biggest in the UK market. We’ve made huge investments in our data and tech capabilities over the past few years, along with nurturing our 4Cs culture. We’re proud of the journey we’re on as a company and know that our continued success will rely on the contribution of our talented colleagues.

We provide insurance for over four million customers, but we know there’s even bigger opportunity out there. The fact you’re now reading this job advert means we’ve tempted you to find out more about #lifeatHD – we really hope you like what you see, and you’ll join us to share in the success of the exciting chapter that lies ahead.

We understand some people may not apply for jobs unless they feel they tick every box. If you’re excited about joining us and think you have some of what we’re looking for, even if you’re not 100% sure we would love to hear from you.

Role overview

Join our team and you’ll be part of a dynamic and forward-thinking team who are on a journey to become the market leading Large Loss team in the country, specialising in Motor Claims. We have exceptionally strong technical capability within the department, and we are passionate about developing our people from a technical and commercial perspective. Because we are a fast-growing business, our large Loss people often have a quicker development journey to that of other more traditional insurers - we're always happy to invest in our colleagues!

Due to wider policy growth across Hastings Direct, we have multiple positions available for this role. Therefore, depending on your skills and experience within the Large Loss space, we’d still love to hear from you, even if you’re not quite at the required authority limits outlined below as we may have other positions across the team.

Job details – you’ll need to have demonstrable experience in:

  • Managing your own portfolio of motor personal injury cases in excess of £1m to £3m and working under agreed authority limits and criteria set by the department

  • Communicating through various means to bring about a speedy resolution of the claim with our customers, witnesses, insurers, repairers, solicitors, engineers, medical experts, forensic accountants, rehab providers, case managers etc.

  • Providing coaching, mentoring and training and acting as a referral point and mentor within the wider claims handling team

  • Joining the bi-annual technical forums where we enlist panel lawyers and expert guest speakers, reviewing technical strategy and having targeting training. Some topics have covered brain and spinal injuries, neuro-psychological testing, court of protecting, accident reconstruction and more!

  • Taking an active role in undertaking various strategic projects to ensure that the department continues to evolve and we stay a step ahead of industry trends and performance

  • Supporting and embedding our company values and policies whilst working to the highest standard

Essential skills/experience:

  • Strong experience within the motor insurance industry in a claims handling role, with knowledge of handling personal injury claims and experience of routinely dealing with claims between £1m– £3m

  • Strong indemnity and liability knowledge, and an eye for detail, with an understanding of the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR), Serious Injury Guide (SIG), The Rehabilitation Code and litigation procedure

  • Someone who is passionate about a long-term career in large loss and ready to join a company who will invest in their technical development

As a Disability Confident employer, we’re committed to ensuring our recruitment processes are fully inclusive – what this means to you is if you’re applying for a job with us, you’ll have fair access to support and adjustments throughout your recruitment journey. Benefits: In addition to a competitive salary you will also receive…

Financial wellbeing – as well as providing you with 4x your salary with our life assurance cover, income protection at no extra cost, and matched pension contributions up to 10%, we are proud to provide you with an award winning package which includes – discounts, cashback, free independent mortgage advice and free access to financial wellbeing support

Mental wellbeing programme – we have the thrive mental health app, our colleague assistance programme available 24/7, our own in-house mental health first aiders, support groups and a dedicated team to make sure we are covering your needs
