Reports to: Team Leader (Patent Paralegals)
Overall Purpose:
At Avidity IP, our objective is to deliver exceptional intellectual property services. The role of the Patent Paralegal is to assist our patent team with filing and prosecuting patent applications.
So, what does that mean…
In this role, your duties will include maintaining patent dockets, preparing patent applications and responses, reporting to clients and working as part of an overall team to ensure a high level of support is provided.
Key Accountabilities
People:
- Deputising for the Patent Team Leader.
Client:
- Supporting attorneys to ensure clients’ IP prosecution needs are actioned in a timely manner.
Quality:
- Processing the central patent mailbox.
- Entering new cases into the firm’s case management system.
- Preparing patent applications for filing.
- Preparing responses and amendments for attorney review.
- Uploading correspondence to patent office platforms.
- Preparing standard reporting letters for attorneys.
- Reporting basic correspondence to clients and foreign agents.
- Maintaining case records in respect of various formalities.
- Maintaining centralised electronic files.
- Adding docket fees and updating the official fee forecast.
- Assisting attorneys in obtaining information from IP related websites and databases.
- Diarising official communications.
What You Need
Qualification and Experience:
- The CIPA Patent Administration Certificate is desirable.
- Essential Skills and Qualities:
- Excellent attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Strong communication skills – verbal and written.
- Accurate typing skills (touch typing and audio typing).
- Excellent Microsoft Office® skills: Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Teams.
- Experience of using the Progressor records system would be advantageous.
- Positive, alert, and willing to provide input and ideas.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team.
