Mechanical Design Engineer

Permanent Role | £50,000 - £65,000 DOE + Bonus & Benefits

📍 UK-wide | Portsmouth based, will consider remote / hybrid workers who are able to occasionally travel to either the Portsmouth or Monmouth office.

Are you an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer at mid–senior level, looking to take on complex, high-impact projects? This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing, multi-disciplinary design & build consultancy delivering prestigious Government and MOD projects across the UK.

You’ll play a key role in delivering mechanical building services designs, collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams, and engaging directly with clients and contractors to ensure efficient, innovative, and compliant solutions. With hybrid and remote working flexibility, you can be based anywhere in the UK, with occasional travel to our Portsmouth or Monmouth offices.

🔧 What You’ll Be Doing :

Deliver mechanical design projects from initial brief through to completion.

Produce calculations, drawings, layouts, and technical specifications in line with British Standards, Building Regulations, and legislation.

Provide technical support and advice to clients and project stakeholders.

Work collaboratively with in-house teams (CAD, electrical, structural, PM) and external contractors.

Conduct site visits, surveys, and project reviews, ensuring high-quality delivery.

Support tender responses (PQQ / SQ / ITT) and contribute to bids.

Mentor junior engineers, offering technical guidance and development support.

✅ What We’re Looking For :

HND or BEng (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering.

5+ years’ experience in building services mechanical design.

Strong technical and analytical skills, with a good grasp of building performance and compliance standards.

Proficient in AutoCAD, Microsoft Office 365, IES (VE), and ideally NBS Chorus.

Excellent communication, organisational, and problem-solving abilities.

Full UK Driving Licence.

Ability to obtain (or already hold) UK Security Clearance.

🌟 Desirable Skills :

MEng or working toward Chartered status (CEng) via CIBSE.

Experience in sustainable / low-carbon design, thermal modelling, BREEAM, or DREAM.

Familiarity with Revit, MagiCAD, and BIM delivery.

Project management or multi-disciplinary coordination experience.
