Consultant in Anaesthesia
Overview
We are recruiting 5 Consultant Anaesthetists for our department at St Mary’s Hospital and Charing Cross Hospital.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will provide clinical services in anaesthesia, peri‑operative care, attending theatre and pre‑operative assessment clinics as part of a team‑based approach for adult patients. Responsibilities include:
- Clinical activities (8.5 PA per week) – pre‑op assessment clinics, elective and emergency theatre work, peri‑operative medicine including acute pain management, MDT meetings, and on‑call activity.
- Supporting Professional Activities (1.5 PA per week) – audit, clinical governance, teaching, research, educational supervision of junior staff and CPD.
- On‑call commitments: 1:12 rota (adults St Mary’s), 1:10 rota (paeds St Mary’s) and 1:15 rota (Charing Cross). Remuneration details follow.
- Work in operating theatre, emergency department and remote sites such as MRI, CT and interventional radiology.
- Opportunity to participate in research, teaching, training, governance, leadership and QI projects.
Qualifications
- On the Specialist Register with a CCT (or equivalent) in Anaesthesia, or within 6 months of gaining a CCT.
- Outstanding anaesthetic skills with subspecialty interests (e.g., urology, regional anaesthesia, orthopaedics, peri‑operative medicine, head and neck/airway anaesthesia).
Remuneration
- 10 PA per week for a whole‑time contract (8.5 DCC and 1.5 SPA).
- On‑call remuneration: Charing Cross – 0.5 PA with 3% supplement; St Mary’s adults – 1 PA with 3% supplement; St Mary’s paeds – 0.75 PA with 3% supplement.
