At Micropack , we lead the way in visual flame detection . Our near-infrared detectors use machine vision to spot fires that conventional sensors miss - keeping high-risk sites in oil, gas, and chemical industries safe.
Now, we’re building what comes next. Smarter, faster, image-based detection. Backed by the Consilium Safety Group - a global leader in fire, flame, and gas safety - we’re scaling our technology without losing focus.
Join our growing team and help shape the next generation of embedded vision systems. Real performance. Real protection. No compromise.
Why Join Micropack?
- High impact work – your algorithms will go into life-saving certified products.
- Real innovation – vision, AI, and embedded systems in a compact, real-world package.
- Ownership – lead the technology stack for machine vision in flame detection.
- Hybrid / remote – based in Aberdeen, but remote working is possible for the right candidate.
- Supportive team – collaborate with experienced hardware and safety engineers.
About The Role
We’re looking for a Senior Machine Vision Engineer to lead development of real-time image processing and embedded AI models for our visual flame detectors. You'll work at the intersection of computer vision, embedded systems, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and optimise real-time vision algorithms in embedded C / C++.Work with near-IR camera sensors to classify flame characteristics.Integrate fixed, certifiable AI models (no runtime learning).Ensure determinism and reproducibility under certification constraints.Evaluate and test model performance under varied lighting and scene conditions.Collaborate with software, hardware, and certification teams.Required Skills & Experience
Strong experience in embedded machine vision (C / C++, Linux, image pipelines).Hands-on with near-IR, CMOS, or similar imaging systems.Knowledge of AI / ML for vision — fixed CNNs, shape tracking, segmentation.Understanding of real-time and memory-constrained processing.Preferred Qualifications
Degree or MSc in Computer Vision, Embedded Systems, or related discipline.Experience with safety-critical product development.Familiarity with IEC 61508 or other certification-related standards.Application & Contact
