Job description

Overview

This role : Junior DevOps / Cloud Engineer is based in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne (Hybrid) with a permanent, full-time contract. The client is seeking a skilled DevOps Engineer to join the technology team and help manage, automate, and optimise cloud infrastructure to deliver reliable, secure, and scalable solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Support, manage, and optimise Microsoft Azure infrastructure and services.
  • Automate tasks and processes using PowerShell and Azure CLI .
  • Maintain and configure Windows Server environments, including networking and security.
  • Work with VMware / vSphere virtualised environments to ensure availability and performance.
  • Monitor systems, troubleshoot issues, and implement improvements for efficiency and resilience.
  • Collaborate with development and IT teams to streamline software delivery and infrastructure operations.
  • Ensure best practices are followed in cost management, security, and compliance within Azure.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Experience in a DevOps, Cloud, or System Infrastructure Engineering role.
  • Strong expertise with Microsoft Azure cloud services.
  • Hands-on experience with PowerShell scripting and Azure CLI .
  • Solid knowledge of Windows Server administration and networking fundamentals.
  • Experience with VMware / vSphere environments.
  • Familiarity with monitoring and alerting solutions in a cloud or hybrid environment.
  • Good problem-solving skills with the ability to work across teams in a fast-paced setting.
  • Exposure to .NET application deployment and CI / CD pipelines (Azure DevOps or similar).
  • Experience implementing automation for cloud cost optimisation and performance tuning.
  • Knowledge of Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Application Insights , or other monitoring / observability tools.
