Langport & Street Vets – An independent practice where your future matters.
Please read the information in this job post thoroughly to understand exactly what is expected of potential candidates.
We are looking for an experienced small animal vet to join our friendly, community-focused practices in Langport and Street. We offer genuine opportunities for career growth, including share options and a clear path to partnership, so you can shape both your career and your future with us.
For over 85 years, Langport & Street Vets has stayed true to our roots as an independent practice, even as many others have taken a different path. That choice has always been about people—our clients, our team, and the vets who will shape the future of our practice. By keeping decisions in the hands of those who live and work here, we can offer more than just a job; we offer a future worth investing in.
About us
Once a traditional mixed practice, we are now 99% small animal, with the occasional equine case available if you are interested, but this is entirely optional. You will enjoy a varied first-opinion caseload that keeps every day interesting while allowing you to follow your clinical passions. We pride ourselves on giving vets the chance to develop their skills in-house rather than referring everything out, so there is always something to challenge and inspire you.
We are a settled and loyal team. Many of the team have been with us for years, and several RVNs have been part of the practice for 15–20 years. That stability, warmth, and genuine community spirit define who we are. Our clients know us outside of work too, whether on dog walks, at the shops, or at the pub, so strong communication and people skills are just as important as clinical ability here. Add in the Somerset lifestyle, with countryside, coast, and culture all within easy reach, and what more could you need?
Meet the team
Julian joined the practice in 2005 and is now the sole partner. During this time, he has guided the practice from its mixed roots to the thriving two-site small animal team it is today, having taken on the Street site ten years ago. Julian’s main passion is surgery, both soft tissue and orthopaedics, and he also enjoys mentoring other vets to build their skills and confidence.
Hermione graduated from Cambridge in 2002. Her key interests are imaging and cardiology, and she would love to complete the advanced practitioner certificate (when life allows!). Tim has been part of the practice for over 40 years. Officially “retired,” he still helps out, offering invaluable support and advice to the team.
Jemima joined us as a new graduate in 2019 after qualifying from Bristol. She enjoys managing medical cases, soft tissue surgery and lab work. With a PhD in stem cell biology, she will soon be leaving to pursue her interests in stem cells, and we are grateful for all she has contributed during her time here.
Ethan joined us as a new graduate in 2024. Keen, curious, and with a growing interest in soft tissue surgery and dentals, he has recently completed his GDP and is already making his mark on the practice.
Laura has just joined us fresh from graduation in 2025, and we are excited to support her as she grows in her new role.
And then there is our loyal nursing team of 7 RVNs and 2 SVNs, plus our long-standing reception crew who know our clients inside out. Our team also includes a menagerie of four-legged companions — from dogs and cats to guinea pigs, tortoises, and the occasional horse — so we truly understand the bond our clients share with their animals. Together, we have built a genuinely supportive and collaborative workplace where everyone looks out for each other.
“I've been working here for just over the last year. Before starting here, I'd previously done EMS at Langport & Street Vets, and I found the team so supportive. When a job opportunity arose, I just had to take it. Recently, I finished my GDP, which has been a great experience. There's always someone at the end of the phone if I need any help, support or advice on cases.” Ethan MRCVS
“I’ve been part of the Langport & Street Vets team for over six years. I trained as a veterinary nurse right here at the practice — and I’ve never left, which says a lot about what a fantastic place it is! We’ve got a brilliant, supportive team who are not only talented but also genuinely fun to work with. It’s a practice where you’re encouraged to grow, laugh, and be part of something really positive. I' ve lived in Somerset my entire life and now live locally with my husband and our dog, Murphy. It’s a beautiful part of the country, with endless scenic walks wherever you go. We’re based in beautiful Somerset, surrounded by countryside but still close to Bristol, Bath, and Exeter — so you really do get the best of both worlds. If you're looking for a practice that combines excellent clinical standards with a fantastic team spirit, come and join us!” Molly RVN
“I'm a qualified veterinary nurse of many years. I used to work for Langport & Street Vets and then went off to do other things. I have come back and have now been with the practice for nearly eight years. The reason I like working at Langport & Street Vets is that it's a great team. We're all very supportive of each other. It is like one big family. It's a beautiful county. What's not to like?” Robin RVN
The rota
Just as we value a happy and supportive atmosphere, we also prioritise a sustainable work-life balance for our team.
What we offer
Life in Somerset
Langport offers the best of both worlds : beautiful countryside, affordable homes, excellent schools (including Millfield for the sporty), and a community that still feels like a community — yet with Bristol, Bath, and Exeter all within easy reach.
Our team makes the most of both Somerset and their own varied interests, from horse riding, dog walking, and wild swimming to running, cycling, gardening, attending steam rallies or concerts, and keeping fit at the gym — with Julian even taking part in local triathlons. When it’s time to relax, others enjoy a good book, a cruise, or cooking up a storm. With the Quantocks, the Blackdown Hills, Glastonbury, and the nearby coastline all on the doorstep, there’s plenty to explore and enjoy — it’s a brilliant place to put down roots.
If you’re ready to invest in your career and grow with our independent practice in one of the UK’s most beautiful regions, we’d love to hear from you. Call us for an informal chat or apply now.
