Job summary
Applicants are invited to apply for the post of Cardiology Consultant in heart valve disease and echocardiography at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital.
This individual should be capable of performing outpatient valve clinics independently, performing inpatient ward rounds for valve and endocarditis patients and be trained and accredited in basic and complex echocardiography (including stress echo, TOE and intraprocedural structural echo). There is a 1 in 8 on call commitment for remote echo review service.
Main duties of the job
This is a permanent full-time post (10 PAs), and the appointee will work closely with the team of intervention consultants, specialist nurses, clinical scientists and physiologists to deliver clinical services both at Guy's and St Thomas' as well as the OP Cardiology service delivered via a community site in Bexley.
GSTT operates a large complex intervention service with an internationally renowned clinical and academic programme for the treatment of the full range of acute and elective coronary presentations. The Cardiovascular Directorate at St Thomas' Hospital is one of the largest in the UK, with facilities including a six-bedded Coronary Care Unit, over 60 cardiology inpatient beds across two wards, a suite of five Catheter laboratories, four Cardiac theatres, a state-of-the-art hybrid theatre and two dedicated outpatient centres. There is excellent provision of the full range of imaging facilities including echocardiography cardiac CT, nuclear medicine and cardiac MRI.

The post holder will fulfil the following clinical commitments :
Weekly outpatient clinic(s)
Support the Cardiology Consultant of the Week rota
Support the Valve and Echocardiography Consultant of the Week rota for additional Ward Round support
Diagnosis of patients referred to GSTT and partner trusts.
Continuing clinical responsibility for the patients in their charge, allowing for all proper delegation to, and training of, junior staff.
To be flexible to provide a high-quality service for patients accessing the service (flexibility with emergency lists is required).
All staff are expected to take part in clinical governance activity, including clinical audit, clinical guideline and protocol development and clinical risk management. They will be expected to produce evidence of their contribution in these areas as part of their annual appraisal.
All consultants are expected to contribute to the management and development of their clinical service. To ensure a robust service is provided.
