Secondary schools across Newcastle are looking for compassionate and resilient SEMH Learning Support Assistants to join their teams. This role may involve working in specialist Alternative Provisions (APs) within the school , supporting pupils with social, emotional, and mental health needs.
What you’ll be doing :
Providing 1 : 1 and small group support for students with SEMH needs
Helping pupils manage emotions, build resilience, and stay engaged in lessons
Supporting behaviour and promoting positive routines and relationships
Working alongside teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral staff to tailor support
Creating a calm, safe, and supportive learning environment
What we’re looking for :
Experience working with young people with SEMH, SEND, or behavioural needs
A calm, patient, and empathetic approach
Resilience and adaptability in challenging situations
Strong communication and relationship-building skills
A genuine passion for helping students overcome barriers to learning

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
