Job description

Overview

Sustainable Futures Group (SFG) is supporting a leading housing provider to appoint a Building Safety and Fire Manager. This exclusive assignment focuses on fire safety compliance and building safety, with a resident-focused approach.

Location: Hybrid – based from Epsom or Tunbridge Wells offices (approximately 2 days in the office, 3 days remote) with occasional site travel across Kent, Surrey and Sussex.

About the Organisation

The housing provider manages over 12,000 homes across Kent, Surrey and the South East. It operates independently while benefiting from group-wide support, offering a local focus combined with broader resources. The portfolio includes mainly low/medium-rise homes and a small number of high-rise buildings, providing scope to deliver best practice and strong resident-focused outcomes.

About the Role

This newly evolved position sits within a supportive Compliance function and leads a small team of three. You’ll lead on fire safety compliance (approximately 75% of the role) and also support building safety case management and a resident-focused approach to building safety (approximately 25%).

What We’re Looking For

  • NEBOSH Fire Safety Certificate or equivalent (Essential)
  • Strong knowledge of fire safety legislation and the Building Safety Act (Essential)
  • Experience overseeing fire risk assessments, remedial actions and managing contractors to deliver compliance (Essential)
  • Ability to lead and develop a small team (Essential)
  • Level 6 Diploma in Building Safety Management (or willingness to work towards) (Desirable – full support and funding provided following probation, if not currently held)
  • Background in Social Housing, Residential Property, or similar environments (e.g. Student Accommodation, Care, Local Authority) (Essential)

What’s on Offer

  • Basic salary of circa £58,000
  • 35 hour working week with hybrid working (2 days in the office / 3 days remote)
  • Flexible working hours to support work-life balance
  • Generous annual leave entitlement of 30 days plus bank holidays
  • Additional 2 paid volunteering days per year
  • Leading pension scheme with up to 10% matched contributions
  • Regular staff social events
  • Professional Development - Support and funding towards Level 6 Building Safety Diploma if not held, plus ongoing training and CPD
  • A supportive, no-blame culture with approachable leadership and a clear focus on improving fire and building safety for residents

Why Join?

This is a unique opportunity to make a tangible difference in a flexible, supportive environment. You’ll join a team that values collaboration, professional development and a commitment to strengthening fire and building safety across the organisation.

Whether you’re progressing in fire or building safety or seeking a stable role with balance, this position offers scope for growth and meaningful impact.
