Senior Mechanical Engineer – Automation & Robotics at Purposeology

Location : Reading, Berkshire | Hours : Full-time, 37.5 hours per week

Are you an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer with a passion for automation, robotics, and precision engineering? Purposeology is seeking a skilled engineer to contribute to next-generation automated production systems.

The Opportunity

This is a hands-on role where you’ll take ownership of mechanical design and development, leading projects that integrate automation, robotics, and material handling at scale. You’ll design innovative mechanisms, solve complex engineering challenges, and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams in electronics, software, and process engineering.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of automated mechanical systems and modules
• Troubleshoot and optimise existing designs to ensure reliability and efficiency
• Mentor junior engineers and support their technical growth
• Drive process improvement across design tools, prototyping, and manufacturing methods
• Work on high-speed material transfer systems, precision mechanisms, and ruggedised designs built for 24 / 7 operation
