I'm currently supporting a successful and growing business based in Stowmarket who are seeking an Assistant Accountant to join their finance team, with a particular focus on accounts payable. This is a great opportunity for someone with strong organisational skills and an eye for detail to develop their career within a friendly and supportive finance environment.

Purpose :

To support the Head of Finance and Management Accountant in the day-to-day operation of the finance function. The role is responsible for maintaining accurate sales and purchase ledgers, supporting payroll processes, and contributing to financial control, reporting, and analysis within a manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities :

• Process supplier invoices, matching purchase orders and investigating and resolving discrepancies
• Take ownership of the purchase ledger, including preparation and initiation of weekly payment runs in line with company procedures
• Reconcile supplier statements and work proactively to resolve queries
• Maintain the sales ledger, including raising sales invoices and allocating customer receipts
• Support credit control activities, monitoring customer accounts and assisting with the management of outstanding balances
• Set up and maintain new stock items within the ERP system, ensuring accuracy and integrity of master data
• Support the company buyer with contract administration, reporting, and data analysis
• Work closely with the Management Accountant to support month-end processes, reconciliations, and reporting as required
• Produce ad hoc financial reports and analysis, supporting both the Head of Finance and Management Accountant
• Assist with the weekly payroll process, including data preparation and validation
• Maintain and reconcile petty cash
