Prison isn’t always the end of the road. For some people, it’s where change starts.
That’s where you come in.
You’ll be based on a specialist wing at HMP Rochester, helping people build confidence, pick up new skills and prepare for life after release. Some days it’s group work, some days it’s one-to-one, but every day you’ll be helping people make real changes.
Now for the tough bits...
You’ll have targets. Not the usual “bums on seats” kind — you’ll be measured on how many positive impacts you actually make. Which is the sort of target most people can get behind. There’s paperwork too. Relentless paperwork. It matters, because that’s how the prison and the charity track what’s working. But yes, it’s still paperwork.
We’re not looking for polished trainers with glossy slides. We want someone who’s worked with people facing tough stuff — criminal justice, homelessness, supported housing, drugs and alcohol. If you can motivate, listen, and keep your cool when behaviour gets challenging, you’ll do well here.
