Job description

Who are Mythwright?

We are a new games publisher, currently in stealth mode, established by industry veterans who have previously built successful publishers from the ground up.

At present, we are focused primarily on Steam and are aiming to build a portfolio of games in niche markets with committed fan-bases.

Responsibilities

In this role, you are primarily responsible for the games we release achieving an average review score of over 80%.

To that end, you provide a generous balance of creative support, freedom, and experience to our development partners– establishing yourself as a deep well of design knowledge to draw from.

Provide Actionable Design Feedback

We aim to release high-quality games that engage and delight our players.

You are responsible for helping our developers use their limited time and resources efficiently and effectively to build incredible games.

  • Build genuine partnerships with developers, earn their trust and act as a sounding board for design concepts and ideas.
  • Regularly play builds and offer thoughtful, considered, in-depth feedback
  • Clearly prioritise feedback and requests through the lens of resources and time
  • Track potential risks and mitigations throughout development
  • Map out the competitive landscape for each title and play each game in the genre to build an intimate understanding of where our titles sit
  • Have a deep understanding of the target audience for each game and their needs and desires

Write Design Specs & Documentation

In some cases, Mythwright will be more directly involved in development and you will act in a design lead or game director capacity.

You are as comfortable balancing a complex game economy or writing a feature spec as you are providing high-level direction

  • Plan, prioritise, communicate and articulate features
  • Motivate the team, keep them informed and maintain vision alignment
  • Build out development plans in partnership with our production team
  • Assess Pitches & Concepts

You are responsible for playing early demos and builds to assess creative potential.

  • Write clear, concise feedback on these builds and prototypes
  • Assess game potential based on your perspective and knowledge of the market
  • Become an integral part of efforts to discover, evaluate and discuss potential titles.
  • About You

We are looking for someone with years of design experience who has been through the full cycle of game development many times– serving with a potent mix of optimism and realism.

  • You are adept at working through complex design challenges in the service of diverse audiences, game genres and stages of production.
  • You will be working across multiple titles at the same time, often in different genres. It is a huge plus if you have deep understanding and experience with Simulation, Strategy, Tycoon / Management titles.
  • You are a quick learner and articulate communicator, able to sort through large amounts of information then produce concise summaries and action points.
  • You are tenacious and hands-on, working effectively with other members of our growing team and exploring impactful ways to support cross-discipline endeavours.
  • Your design expertise, creative leadership and industry experience will inform the shape of our projects and the quality of our portfolio.
  • Benefits

    Competitive Salary

You will receive a competitive salary and other benefits as they come online.

    Enhanced Holiday Package

In addition to your normal 20 days holiday allowance, you will also benefit from a 2-week company summer shutdown and a 2-week winter break each year to rest and recharge.
