Purpose of Role
We are seeking an experienced Lifecycle Project Manager (Construction) to lead the delivery of lifecycle and capital improvement projects across a major acute healthcare estate at Whiston Hospital & St Helens Hospital.
Job Description
Over the next three years, approximately £21 million of lifecycle (high-volume) and infrastructure projects will be delivered across the hospital, covering mechanical, electrical, construction, and critical asset replacement programmes. Projects will range from infrastructure upgrades and plant replacement through to ward refurbishments, medical gas systems, electrical infrastructure, and wider building fabric improvements. This is a key leadership role requiring a technically strong, mechanically biased project professional capable of managing complex programmes of work in a live healthcare environment.
Responsibilities
•Lead the planning, development, and delivery of lifecycle and construction projects across the hospital estate.
• Manage a multi-year programme of works, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.
• Oversee mechanical, electrical, and building fabric lifecycle replacement programmes
• Coordinate consultants, contractors, and specialist supply chain partners to ensure efficient project execution.
• Ensure all works comply with HTMs (Health Technical Memorandums), statutory regulations, CDM requirements, and healthcare compliance standards.
• Provide strategic input into lifecycle planning, asset investment strategy, and long-term estate improvement programmes.
• Engage closely with hospital stakeholders, clinical teams, and operational management to minimise disruption and ensure project success.
• Produce programme reporting, financial forecasts, risk management plans, and performance updates for senior stakeholders
Essential Qualifications/Skills
• Proven experience delivering construction, lifecycle, or capital projects within healthcare PFI or critical environments.
• Strong technical background, ideally mechanical or building services engineering biased, with a broad understanding of M&E and construction disciplines.
• Knowledge of healthcare compliance standards including HTMs, CDM Regulations, and statutory compliance frameworks.
• Demonstrated ability to manage contractors, consultants, and multidisciplinary delivery teams.
• Strong commercial awareness including budgeting, cost control, and programme management.
• HNC/HND/Degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services, or Project Management .
• Professional membership (APM, CIOB, RICS, or similar) desirable.
