Higher Education Infrastructure Engineer
A prestigious higher education institution in London is seeking a talented Infrastructure Engineer to join their dedicated IT Services team. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a diverse and stimulating environment that supports cutting-edge teaching, learning, and research.
Role Overview :
You will be responsible for the design, maintenance, and development of the institution’s infrastructure environment, with a focus on Windows Server, Microsoft 365, and Azure technologies. This is a varied and hands-on role, supporting both on-premises and cloud services, ensuring high availability, security, and performance for staff and students.
Key Responsibilities :
- Manage and maintain Windows Server environments, including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy.
- Support and optimise Microsoft 365 services, including Exchange Online, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Teams.
- Administer and enhance the institution’s Azure infrastructure, including virtual machines, storage, and networking.
- Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement improvements.
- Work closely with colleagues to deliver infrastructure projects and upgrades.
- Ensure compliance with security standards and data protection requirements.
- Provide 3rd-line technical support for escalated issues.
- Strong knowledge of Windows Server administration (2016 / 2019 / 2022).
- Proven experience managing Microsoft 365 environments.
- Hands-on Azure administration and configuration experience.
- Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP / IP, VLANs, firewalls).
- Experience with virtualization (VMware or Hyper-V).
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Higher education or public sector experience.
- Knowledge of ITIL practices.
