Role Overview
Major UK programmes such as Apache, Chinook, C‑17, P‑8A and E7 Wedgetail are supported and delivered by Boeing Defence UK (BDUK) Ltd, a subsidiary of The Boeing Company. Employing more than 1,700 people, BDUK also provides engineering sustainment and support for aircraft in service with the UK armed forces, along with virtual and instructor‑led training. Leveraging our established defence business in the UK and blending our local expertise with our ‘One Boeing’ global approach, BDUK is well positioned to support the UK with its current and future defence and security challenges. The Technician role will form part of a Maintenance, Repair and Operations (MRO) organisation within BDUK, working as part of a team in support of our key programmes. The individual will be responsible for ensuring established process adherence, accurate and timely work recording and contractual / regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities
- Report to a Supervisor and conduct assigned maintenance tasks, understanding, interpreting and implementing technical information and ensuring that work / tasks are completed in accordance with Approved Technical Data and correctly certified.
- Execute aircraft maintenance activities to meet individual schedule milestones, controlling and sequencing workloads and ensuring acceptable work standards, first‑time quality, and performance measures are met.
- Deliver aircraft maintenance under Boeing’s own MAA MRP Part 145 approval or under the approval of the MOD customer.
- Assembly, disassembly, modification or repair of aircraft systems / structures / electronics / components, upgrading aerospace components to correct failures or implement changes.
- Perform routine troubleshooting of complex aircraft systems, such as pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical / electronic, to isolate faults and repair faulty components in accordance with technical information published in authorized maintenance documents.
- Be flexible with work locations and times to ensure aircraft are delivered on time to the customer.
- Provide advice, guidance and mentoring to peers and others appropriate to their role.
- Exercise, or work under appropriate supervision for the role.
- Mitigate immediate risks including ‘stop work’ as well as escalating emerging risks, issues and shortfalls in a timely manner.
- Contribute to continuous improvement workshops and projects as required.
- When directed, exercise 100% oversight of work carried out by Boeing Apprentices or Trainees, and provide mentoring.
- Contribute positively to our open and honest reporting culture.
Preferred Skills
Good communication skills, ability to distribute and sequence technical work requirements to the team, control demanding workloads while delivering to a high standard and maintaining schedule.Understanding of interpreting technical documents, drawings and associated publications.Working knowledge of MAA Regulatory Articles (RA), MAA Regulatory Publication (MRP) Part 145, aviation Quality Assurance (QA) and Safety Management System (SMS) and application of these requirements within area of responsibility, accountability and authority (RAA).Preferred Qualifications / Experience
Recognised relevant trade apprenticeship or trade training equivalent.Knowledge of general aircraft maintenance and processes applicable to the aviation environment (Human Factors, FOD control, tool control, health & safety & COSHH).Experience in commercial or defence, considered.Proficient computer skills, use of Microsoft Office suite.Effective team member.Benefits
