Role Context :

Financial Reporting is accountable for delivering timely and accurate financial results and disclosures across all reporting metrics, while providing real business insights, quality assurance and technical advice.

We are recruiting for a permanent Senior accounting position based in either our Stirling or Edinburgh office.

Key Work Level Accountabilities :

Manager or Expert :

  • For people managers, accountable for managing and motivating others to ensure quality of delivery to customers and stakeholders
  • For technical specialists, accountable for delivering expert advice or service, using specialist knowledge and subject matter expertise
  • Applies judgement to deliver outcomes, evaluating a range of potential solutions, considering the impact for customers, cost and risk
  • Manages conflicts that may impact delivery
  • Challenges upwards given knowledge of delivery and awareness of complex systems and the broader picture
  • Identifies and anticipates need for changes to continuously improve quality and efficiency of output
  • Manages resources and risks using expert judgment, know-how and experience

Role Responsibilities :

  • Manage delivery of accounting inputs to IFRS17 engine including reconciling to general ledger and liaising with operational accounting teams.
  • Manage delivery of accounting IFRS17 outputs to Group and internally in line with working day timetable.
  • Manage a team of Finance professionals, including technical experts, in the delivery of financial reporting and associated financial information with supporting analysis and commentary in line with the working day timetable.
  • Ensure the delivery of high quality results, meeting customer needs, within a robust control framework including clear audit trail
  • Producing and being accountable for the technical accuracy of financial information to support production of IFRS results, statutory accounts, and reporting templates
  • Assisting with the planning and coordination of our financial reporting across several teams, together with review of results. The team is the key link between Group Finance and finance reporting teams across the UK business.
  • Carrying out processes and controls to ensure the accurate production of information and document work performed to ensure appropriate audit trials are maintained.
  • Be an expert in the IFRS17 reporting processes and results analysis.
  • Ensure the delivery of technically accurate, robust and well explained inputs to the regular reporting and wider business management
  • Provide technical expertise to design technical solutions as part of change projects within Finance
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and take personal accountability to maintain and enhance controls you are responsible for to support improvement of the overall control environment, customers outcomes and a reduction in M&G's operational risk
  • Key Knowledge, Skills and Experience :

  • Qualified accountant
  • Experience / knowledge of IFRS17 reporting desirable.
  • Knowledge of financial reporting regulatory requirements and legislatory frameworks
  • Knowledge of M&G products, systems and distribution methods
  • Interest in dealing with complex transactions and associated accounting
  • Experience of insurance accounting, including requirements of UKGAAP and IFRS
  • Ability to produce high quality technical work whilst operating within a well-controlled environment
  • A technical knowledge of the business and the key data in the balance sheets and P&L, with detailed understanding of asset and liability risks and how they impact key metrics;
  • Detailed technical level knowledge of performing financial reporting and effective tools for developing and enhancing the financial reporting processes
  • Demonstrable experience of problem solving and providing practical solutions to complex problems
  • Experience of actively seeking out opportunities to learn about new developments and applying them to current work processes, and of considering the impact of own team’s work and suggesting improvements to process and deliverables
  • Ability to work on your own initiative
  • Ability to work to deadlines and prioritise workload
  • Some experience of communicating findings and results of analyses in the appropriate format to ensure understanding, determining the most appropriate message and delivery method
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with ability to express own viewpoint and to communicate clearly on complex actuarial issue
