An opportunity has arisen for an engineer to exploit their safety engineering skills to influence the safety aspects of one of our defence clients technically complex products. While exploring the boundaries of best practice, this will involve optimising the effort devoted to safety assurance, with the goal of balancing safety against the inherently lethal attributes required of complex weapon systems.
Responsibilities :

This will involve working closely with project teams, as well as UK and international authorities. The successful candidate will be required to liaise with key stakeholders (including, but not necessarily limited to, external customers, the platform authorities and stakeholders within the business) and take a leading role in the update and evolution of the required safety analyses, Safety Case Reports and the associated Safety Management Plans. The main emphasis will be on ensuring on-time delivery of these artefacts and coordinating the evidence required to satisfy suitable mitigations.
Requirements :
Thorough understanding of how the hazard analysis process integrates with the system engineering process to influence the design.
Knowledge of electronic engineering is desirable (education to degree or HND level or a comparable level of experience is preferred). Knowledge of other engineering disciplines (especially software) is also desirable.
Knowledge of IEC 61508 / DO178C / DO-254 / DEF-STAN 00-055 is desirable.
Good verbal, written communications analytical and problem solving skills.
Track record as an effective team player with strong interpersonal and influencing skills and the ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary / multi-national team.
