Consultant in Ophthalmology with interest in Glaucoma

We have been assigned by one of the UK's more prestigious NHS Trusts to help them recruit a Consultant in Ophthalmology with interest in Glaucoma on either a Substantive or an NHS Fixed Term basis for 12 months to join their successful Ophthalmology department.

Our client's Ophthalmology service is a very busy department, pre COVID the departments activity levels (19/20) achieved 18,111 New Patients, 65,538 Follow Up appointments and 4,536 day cases. Elective and non-elective activity levels are very small approx. 60 per annum. At present the Consultant Ophthalmology team cover all the major subspecialty areas in Ophthalmology (cornea, glaucoma, oculoplastic, cataract, neuro-ophthalmology, medical retina, uveitis, urgent care and Paediatric services. There is no Consultant led emergency service, there are Rapid Access Clinics running at both hospitals for urgent referrals from GPs and Optometrists

The successful appointee will be asked to undertake various duties within the department, these include: the post-holder will lead specific duties as part of the development of a multi-disciplinary team approach to care within the specialty, appointee should have a special interest in Glaucoma, appointee will be expected to offer expertise in the management of Glaucoma and general ophthalmic service and cataract surgery, appointee will be expected to work as a team with Orthoptists and Optometrists, appointee will work closely with the other Glaucoma consultants and develop efficiencies for the Glaucoma service. Glaucoma has the highest backlog number of patients waiting for their follow up appointment, appointee is expected to be committed to the improvement of quality of clinical care in the Clinical Unit and to participate in incident reporting, risk management and Clinical Unit Governance Meetings, appointee will be expected to actively participate in audit & The post holder will be expected to participate in clinical teaching of undergraduate and junior medical staff within their supporting Professional Activities as required by the Clinical Unit
