Overview

Senior Transport Planner to join the Strategic Transport team and play a key role in developing and delivering the Local Transport Plan and wider transport strategy.

About The Role

You’ll lead strategic projects, manage consultants and budgets, and play a key role in delivering the Local Transport Plan. This is a fantastic opportunity to influence sustainable transport solutions and work collaboratively across the council and with external partners.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support the development of Reading's Local Transport Plan.
  • Manage a range of transport projects and oversee consultants.
  • Prepare reports, project briefs, and funding bids.
  • Analyse transport trends and data to inform decision-making.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including government departments and the Berkshire Local Transport Body.
  • Monitor budgets ranging from £100k to £500k.
  • Attend and present at meetings, including briefings with Lead Councillors.

This is a dynamic role that combines strategic thinking, project management, and stakeholder engagement to improve transport across the borough.

Qualifications / What We’re Looking For

  • A relevant degree and / or eligibility for membership of a professional institution.
  • Proven experience in transport planning or strategy.
  • Substantial experience in transport planning and project management.
  • Strong report writing, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Political awareness and the ability to work corporately across departments.
  • A proactive approach to customer care and equal opportunities.
  • You’ll also need to be comfortable attending occasional evening meetings and working flexibly to meet project demands.
