The Role and the Department
Durham University has an ambitious strategy that will build on our world-leading research, education, and wider student experience. Over thecomingyears we will be investing in our people, estate, and IT infrastructure and our ways of working to ensure that we remain one of the World's greatuniversities. We are looking for a Senior Project Manager to deliver major strategic projects.
The Strategy Delivery Unit is focussed on co-ordinating and facilitating the implementation of the University's ambitious strategic plans. There are three teams within the unit covering the activities of portfolio management, change and project delivery and continuous improvement. The role will sit in the Change and Projects team but will deliver projects across the University.
The purpose of the role is to manage the delivery of projects within assigned parameters including scope, schedule, finance, risk, quality and resource. The role will be required to :
The successful candidate will be an experienced project manager with a good understanding of project and change methodologies and techniques. They will be able to build trusted relationships with teams across the university, will be a good communicator, and will be tenacious and pragmatic. They will have experience of delivering change in complex environments, plus, they will be excited about - and motivated by - Durham University's ambition and the opportunity to play a key part in making it happen.

Qualifications / Experience
1. Educated to degree level (or equivalent experience).
2. Experience of providing professional project management leadership for complex projects.
3. Experience of providing specialist advice and guidance to a range of customers and colleagues, including more senior colleagues.
4. Experience of being able to network effectively and develop strong and productive working relationships..
5. Experience of implementing and ensuring compliance with organisational policies and procedures and supporting service improvements.
Skills / Abilities / Knowledge
6. Ability to solve problems and resolve issues, plan solutions and make pragmatic decisions.
7. Ability to contribute to planning at operational and strategic levels.
8. Excellent spoken and written communication skills including the ability to develop effective working relationships, both internally and externally
9. Strong digital competence across a range of digital devices and apps including digital communication tools, Microsoft 365 applications, business systems.
10. Commitment to continuing professional development and learning..
Desirable Criteria
11. Experience of working in the Higher Education sector or a similarly complex organisation.
12. Experience of change management.
