Overview

Join to apply for the Medicines Management Pharmacy Technician role at London North West Healthcare NHS Trust .

This is a full-time post with weekend and late duties as per rota. The role offers cross-site working between Northwick Park, Ealing and Central Middlesex Hospitals and provides an opportunity to contribute to ward-based clinical pharmacy services.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a highly efficient medicines management service to wards across the Emergency, Acute, Medicine, Maternity, Care of the Elderly and Surgery departments.
  • Promote safe, efficient and cost‑effective use of medicines at ward level.
  • Support the provision and expansion of the medicines management pharmacy technician service across the Trust.
  • Assist in induction, training, supervision and support of new pharmacy staff.
  • Assist in training healthcare staff on medicines management at ward level.
  • Participate in audits relating to medicines management.
  • Complete medicines reconciliations in a timely manner to meet NICE recommendations.
  • Assess patients’ own drugs (PODs) for suitability for use.
  • Order “one stop dispensing” medications promptly to support the discharge pathway.
  • Final accuracy check on clinically screened prescriptions for a minimum of eight hours per month in the main dispensary or satellite pharmacies to maintain ACPT competency.
  • Provide advice to patients, representatives and healthcare professionals on medication issues to achieve the best patient outcomes.
  • Provide technical support to satellite pharmacies and the main dispensary.
  • Be responsible for own Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and training development.

Requirements

  • You will be a registered Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
  • Demonstrate experience and a passion for ward-based clinical pharmacy services and patient safety.
  • Be an enthusiastic, motivated and patient-oriented pharmacy technician.
  • Excellent communication skills; able to work as part of a large multi-disciplinary team; be friendly, approachable, adaptable, flexible and committed to CPD.
  • Willing to learn new skills and participate in cross-site working across LNWH sites.
