Ordnance Survey works at the intersection of innovation and insight, helping clients navigate emerging technologies such as AI, digital twins, smart mobility, PNT and climate resilience. Our mission is to ensure organisations lead change by using location data to drive smarter decisions and better outcomes.

The geodesy and PNT team supports data collection activities, defines the national geodetic infrastructure and partners with government and commercial organisations. OS Net is a nationwide network of over 110 Continuously Operating Reference Stations (CORS) delivering centimetre-level GNSS correction services, underpinning emergency services, financial systems, transport networks and national security. OS is exploring quantum technologies to enhance resilience and accuracy in PNT.

About The Role

The aim is to identify, develop and deliver innovation, project and operational activities related to Geodesy and Positioning Navigation and Time (PNT), enabling new capability, new opportunities, reducing operational costs and sustaining OS as a thought leader. We are looking for a Senior subject matter expert in Geodesy, GNSS and the PNT domain. You will collaborate across OS, government, academia and industry to develop nationally critical geodesy and PNT strategic plans and translate them into experiments, development and operational activities. You will support geodesy and OS Net operations and work with our subject matter experts to deliver national capability. You will provide detailed understanding of GNSS to inform operational and strategic decisions.

Reporting into the Lead PNT Scientist, you will support positioning and geodesy consultants, research and data scientists, and product teams to deliver sustainable operations and capability growth.

Responsibilities

• Identify, develop and deliver innovation, project and operational activities related to Geodesy and PNT.
• Collaborate across OS, government, academia and industry to develop strategic plans and translate them into experiments, development and operational activities.
• Provide support to geodesy and OS Net operations and deliver national capability with experienced geodesy guidance.
• Offer detailed understanding of GNSS to enable informed operational and strategic decisions.
• Support the Lead PNT Scientist and teams in delivering sustainable operations and capability growth.

Location & Working Model

Location : Hybrid model with a fantastic HQ in Southampton, Hampshire. Expect to spend a minimum of 2 days per week in the office with remaining time flexible for home-working or in-office work.
