Job Overview

We are currently seeking a dependable and hard‑working Groundskeeper to join our team at Island Lake Shooting Range in Brighton, MI. This is an entry‑level role, and all necessary training will be provided. It’s a great opportunity for students or individuals early in their careers who enjoy working outdoors and being part of a team.

As a Groundskeeper, you’ll work under the direction of the Grounds Superintendent to ensure the outdoor facilities are clean, safe, and guest‑ready. Your daily tasks will help maintain the beauty and function of our grounds—from weed whipping and landscaping to loading target machines and performing light maintenance.

This is a hands‑on role where you’ll work as part of a collaborative team, helping to create a well‑maintained and inviting environment for our guests.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform mowing, trimming, landscaping, and general upkeep of the property
• Load and maintain clay target machines
• Assist with routine repairs of carts, traps, tools, and other equipment
• Help maintain cleanliness of public areas, shooting ranges, and trails
• Support seasonal projects such as leaf clearing, snow removal, and irrigation upkeep
• Follow daily task lists provided by the Grounds Superintendent
• Assist with inspections to ensure safety and cleanliness
• Help prepare the facility for events, including setting up target presentations and signage
• Report issues or maintenance needs promptly to the Superintendent

Qualifications & Skills:

• Experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, or maintenance preferred
• Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
• Ability to operate landscaping tools and light equipment safely
• Mechanically inclined and willing to learn equipment maintenance
• Dependable, hard‑working, and detail‑oriented
• Team‑oriented with a positive, can‑do attitude
• Willingness to take direction and learn on the job
• Basic understanding of firearm safety and range procedures (training provided)
• Physically able to bend, reach, stoop, stand, and walk for extended periods
• Able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds

Schedule:

We have openings for both full‑time and part‑time Groundskeeper positions and are happy to accommodate a variety of schedules. Preference will be given to candidates who have weekend availability.

Compensation:

Starting hourly wage ranges from $13.00–$14.50 per hour, based on experience, education, and technical proficiency.
