Job description

Are you looking to join a Team that puts the client first? Do you believe in supporting people to lead the life they choose?

We are looking for a reliable, friendly Support Worker to join an established team supporting a young man with a spinal cord injury who lives in his own home with his pet dog so applicants must be comfortable around pets.

Our client values his independence and is firm in making his own choices about his lifestyle and care. He enjoys a relaxed home environment and has a particular passion for gaming. He also enjoys watching TV and movies (sci-fi and action) and likes to cook. He is seeking someone who is positive, patient, and who respects his autonomy and supports him in living life on his own terms.

Please note, the client smokes and so applicants should be comfortable with this.

Location:

• Bude

Roles Available:

• Part time 1-2 days per week

Shift Patterns:

• 09:30-18:30 Day shift

Bank Holidays and weekend work form part of the rota

Pay Rates:

• £15.00 per hour weekday hours

• £16.00 per hour weekend hours

£1.00 per hour less during probationary period

Double time for Bank Holidays

Role Responsibilities:

• Providing personal care and daily living support

• Assisting with transfers and mobility

• Supporting with household tasks and routines

• Promoting independence and participation in hobbies and activities

• Working collaboratively with an experienced, supportive team

• Shifts will include a mix of weekdays and weekends (flexibility appreciated)

Ideal Candidate

Essential:

• Respectful of personal boundaries and the clients right to make his own decisions

• Excellent communication skills and a sense of humour

• Comfortable working around pets and with a smoker

• Supporting the clients personal care tasks

• Flexible and reliable

Preferred:

• Previous care experience

• Previous experience of spinal cord injury

• Full UK Driving Licence and willingness to drive the clients adapted vehicle

JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Purpose: To support your client with their day-to-day living, promoting their independence and supporting them to live a fulfilled life ensuring their safety and wellbeing at all times.

Internal and Management: This role will report to the Registered Manager

Key Duties/Responsibilities of our Support Worker:

Supporting your client to safely lead a fulfilling and more independent life by:

• Provide practical support for your client and their family, such as helping with personal care, household tasks and paperwork

• Assist and encourage your client to engage in everyday home, social, leisure and work activities, according to the individual's choice

• Support and monitor your client's healthcare needs, including administering medication and other clinical tasks

• Help your clients to access community facilities and be included in community groups, if they so wish

• Understand their communication needs and adapt your own communication style accordingly

• Keep accurate, up to date records of all the care you provide

• Work positively with other professionals, such as doctors and therapists, to ensure consistency of support

• Maintain confidentiality and discretion at all times

• Participate in learning and development opportunities as required

This is not intended to cover all the responsibilities of the post but to provide some guidance. The post holder will perform any other duties that are deemed reasonable and appropriate by your Line Manager.

As a term of employment, you may be required to undertake other duties and/or hours of work as may be reasonably required. This forms part of your employment contract.
